You must have been reading my mind, Woody. I and several others go before the House Natural Resources Committee tomorrow afternoon to support the Indiana Apprentice Hunting License bill HB1046. Thanks for posting the Families Afield report. Lots of info but it shows the data behind the need for the bill.

Glad that I could be of some help on that one Jack.
the supervised youth ratio numbers of accidents (way less than adults) is very telling in that we can have a successful apprentice license program
I'm ALL in favor of the apprentice license.
I think that the poll we conducted on here the overwhelming majority of respondees said the same thing.
God luck and let us know how you make out.

A grandfather who is raising his grandson stopped me in the hallway at church on Sunday and asked me if I'd be willing to take his grandson out hunting this coming year. His 12 year old grandson had purchased a 20 ga. and a bunch of hunting clothes with his Christmas money and is really looking forward to hunting. I absolutely agreed, with pleasure, but I had to explain the hunter's education requirement. Although I believe they will pursue the hunters ed, I could tell it put a damper on their excitement. It is potentially a road block before the youth ever even tastes what hunting is all about....

One of the groups supporting this legislation is the Indiana Hunters Education Association. Remember this bill is a way for the folks to try it out before they actually have to take the classes but they will eventually have to go unless they were born before 1986.

I think a kid has to be at least 12 for that. Personally, I think they should relax that requirement and allow younger kids to take the course.
