I have about had it with Dick's Sporting Goods.......
Last year we bought our son a fairly expensive bike from them, they offered us an additional warranty for an additional cost when we made the purchase, they said the warranty covered anything that could go wrong with the bike. If we had a problem we were to call an 800 number and they would issue a credit to take back to Dick's to replace the bike.
Well as it turns out in about May the back wheel on the bike warped, probabally from Josh jumping ramps......no problem we bought the warranty! We called the 800 number and was surprised when they informed us that we would need to take the bike back to Dick's and have them look at it.....so we did.
When the staff at the Dick's store looked at it they said they would need to order a new wheel and put it on, I guess thats OK, but it's not what we were told when we purchased the additional warranty and I advised the staff member of that. His response was, well the warranty company was replacing too many bikes so they changed the way they do warranties. It took three weeks to get that wheel replaced.
Now this Christmas we purchased two new Martin compound bows at Dick's, (about $900.00 total spent) we were told to bring the bows back after Christmas and they would set them up and tie in the peep sights. The day after Christmas my son called the Dick's in Plainfield and asked if there would be a bow tech working that day and they said the tech came in at 11:30am. Josh advised the lady that we needed two bows that we had received for Christmas presents and were purchased at their store set up. She advised "no problem, just bring them in". Josh called me at work and I decided to take off early to get the bows set up. We arrived at the store around noon, took our bows in and up to the Lodge department. When we got to the Lodge department we were met with blank stares from the staff member. He said "what can I do for you?"......I explained we were there to have our bows set up.....his response........UH....WE DON'T HAVE A BOW TECH WORKING TODAY
I advised that we had called earlier and was told that there would be a bow tech working.....they researched this and finally told us that the girl that my son had talked to was looking at the wrong schedule and mis informed my son. The bow tech would not be on duty till Saturday afternoon. I asked if they could call the Avon store and check if they had a bow tech that day, they called and the answer was NO, so I asked them to call Greenwood, they called Greenwood and advised that their bow tech was in fact working that day.....BUT HE WAS NOT WORKING ON BOWS, THEY WERE TOO BUSY WITH OTHER THINGS.
I took off work early for this?
We decided to take the bows to the outdoorsman and PAY to have them set up.....that cost me about $50.00
We received one of them gift certificates in the mail from Dick's....it was for $20.00 I guess it's our reward for spending $900.00 on new bows. I took the certificate to Dick's in Plainfield and bought a new bow case. It was one of those hard plastic cases and was $29.95......I should have inspected it better before I purchased it, when I got it home I discovered it was cracked. It was the last one that Plainfield had in stock so i decided to take it back to the Avon store. When I got to the Avon store they were out too. I had my receipt so i just asked for a refund of store credit. To my surprise they offered me $9.95 refund!
Wait a minute I said, I paid $29.95 for that i used my $20.00 gift certificate and paid the balance in cash. They advised that the $20.00 certificate was not really a certificate, it was just a $20.00 discount???
After speaking with two managers, they agreed that if i purchased something THAT day they would again give me a $20.00 discount. OK I said.... i went to the Lodge department picked up a half dozen carbon arrows ($29.95) and asked for them to be cut at 28 inches. That worked out fine as i could always use arrows and ut was an even exchange.
When I got the arrows home I discovered they were cut at 26 & 3/4 inches....just a little short of the 28 inches i needed!!!!
All is not lost as the arrows do fit my son's bow.....but I do think I am done spending any of my money at Dick's!!!!!!!
