I was doing some glassing the other day and my binoculars broke right in half. They were a fairly cheap pair and I got what I paid for. My question is has anyone used or currently uses Vortex binoculars. I have read a lot about them and it is all positive. I am mainly going to use them for 3D deer hunting. Girt's archery has them for a pretty good price and they won't sell it if it is not a good product. So please give me your opinions on them. I am looking at the Sidewinder 8x42.

Thats what happens when you use binocs to drive nails with....or were you using it to take your shotgun apart? You might try contacting the manufacturer and tell them what happened. They may tell you to pack sand....or...they may send you a replacement. Don't know until you ask! (don't tell them you were driving nails with it!)

I think most of the lower end, low price binos are pretty crummy, however if you've never looked through high end glass, you might not know the difference. If you don't mind spending $300 or so, some of the Leupold, Nikon and Steiner stuff aint bad. If you've got the coin to blow on a great pair, you won't be disappointed by Leica, Swarovski or Zeiss, plus you'll never have to buy another pair as they are all life time guaranteed. I finally caved in and bought a pair of Swarovskis a couple years ago, and now wish I'd done it 20 years ago. Would like to get a pair of the compact ones now for bow hunting.

Have not heard one negative thing about the brand, every comment has been overwhelming positive. As a result I ended up buying the switchbacks ($190 or so, I think) and am certainly pleased, however this is the first time I've spent more than $50 on a pair of binoculars, so take that for what it's worth.
