I for one love the get-togethers and think the more the merrier. I'm kicking around the thought of maybe a late-July canoe trip maybe on Sugar Creek or the Whitewater River down South. Something like that could be fun!!! Any interest in something like that??? I like this idea!

Hoosierhunter2 - great job on the slide show and music!!! Excellent, although that one series of Travis supposedly breaking one looked photoshopped to me... bird just kind of disappeared... LOL... Travis - the stuff in the back of the truck is precisely weighed ballast to keep my vintage 1988 Chevy in optimum trim for airflow and mileage... she serves as a farm truck and hunting vehicle with an ol' reliable 350 V8... 245K and still ticking and uses 1/2 quart of oil in 3,000 miles... ;D Chris and I had a great time, and will likely being going to down to Atterbury again in the near future for trap/skeet. As Hornharvester and others can now attest, you really need full cup hearing protection for the rifle range. We had shot up at Roush Lake last year, and the percussion when guys are shooting M1's and such is more than just ear plugs will handle. It would have been nice if the state had added some sound foam to the first overhead panel or so to kill some of that echo... I think Woody's and HH are on the right track for considering an overnight deal next time around... would give everyone more range time and time in the evening to shoot the breeze around the campfire... For the first time out, though, absolutely no complaints... Thanks to WW, his son and all who worked to organize this initial outing!!!!!

Don't know about the Whitewater down south, (I haven't been there), but Sugar Creek is a good spot for the little ones, due to the shallow water and mild current. I suspect he was sandbagging so as not to make grandpa look bad. .

Some pretty decent small-mouth fishing through Shades and Turkey Run state parks too. Woody, if this outing happens, will you be forcing Mark to sit up front and paddle through the slack water, while you drag your paddle out the back end?

If we are going to be on the water, this will become especially important!

EXCELLENT smallie fishing on Sugar, and you have Turkey Run SP and Shades nearby for overnight camping.
Let's digest this thought and see if we can't make it happen in July! If we end up having "Chicken Fights" in a swimming hole I wanna see John holding up Chico on his shoulders!!!!
What do you guys think that would have a 2+ hour drive to Sugar.... would you be willing to do it? What would REALLY be awesome is if we could get enough canoes to do this without the aid of any of the canoe companies, so we would be on our own schedule/pace. We could park half the vehicles at the end of the line, and the others way up stream. I'm sure between all of us we could come up with several canoes!
........First, it was the John Wayne Picnic.............. Now, it's the "Deliverance Outting"!!!!! *Banjo playing*

Travis, I've got 2 layout boats, and can get another one, they'll float just fine down the creek, 1 person though. I also could bring the flat bottom boat with the mud motor, that would make it much simpler! They also have really good canoeing right there at Atterbury along the Sugar/Blue rivers, Blue's canoes runs an outfit there, it's pretty mild mannered canoeing also, and could shoot a round of skeet again while there!

Sugar Creek/Turkey Run in July sounds good, just don't make it July 18-23 going out of town already. I've got a canoe even if I don't go you all are welcome to use it.

Travis,
I've got 2 canoe's/kayak's that I use for duck hunting that would be perfect. They are each a 2 person unit so that would account for 4 people there. Art, you're gonna miss out!

Sounds good, but with the reference to "Deliverance" I probably won't be banking my canoe anywhere along the way.
It might be impossible to get in to camp at Turkey Run at this late date, they're usually booked up. Shades might have some sites available.

Don't count on it yet, and I hate to volunteer him without talking to him, but dadfsr has possesion of at least 4-5 canoes and a canoe trailer for his Scout Venture Crew. I don't know what it will take to twist his arm into it, but he's a short drive (probably only about 35 minutes) from the put-in at the city park in Crawfordsville. He and I have been talking about trying to get out and do some fishing this summer; this might be our trip if it can be put together... I know July 21 is probably out (for me at least, not to mention it's probably the first weekend of a LOT of county fairs), and the weekend of the 29 is the Brickyard, so that might be out for an overnighter too.
What about the first weekend in August?

Not quite Woody It is a rental house that 14 of the livers are staying in for a week. My step daughter got married Saturday. I come just shy of being able to afford to buy this place
