Hey Fellas..
I spent a large portion of the afternoon walking through my hunting area again. I "cut a trail" through alot of the thick stuff entering from a cornfield into the area. It is so thick and grown up. There are many tree tops laying down resulting from some of the recent storms.
I was really impressed noticing quite an acorn crop again this year. The "early season" trails entering and exiting the woods are showing signs of being used frequently and the acorns on the ground are being hit rather hard by the deer population.
I was standing on the platform of my "favorite" stand and I had two bucks come from the swampy creek bottom past my location less than 20 yards away. One buck was a smaller basket rack 8 pointer and the other buck was somewhat larger. He still had velvet hanging off his rack.
As I checked another location, I had 5 does approach me following a trail along an oak ridge. They paused to eat acorns and eventually walked past me within "spitting distance" and entered the swamp.
As I was walking out of the woods, I heard a commotion in the standing cornfield and immediately recognized the sounds of running deer. As I reached my truck, the lady that lives across the road from where I hunt was at her rural mailbox. She waved at me and asked me if I had seen the buck that ran out of the cornfield? I told her I heard it but never saw it. She said it was a BIG buck with BIG HORNS..
I spoke with her husband and he told me he had been seeing a couple twin bucks BOTH having drop tines on a regular basis. SOUND VERY ENCOURAGING TO ME!!
The COUNTDOWN CONTINUES!!!
