Fellas, this will add an interesting twist to the gun control discussion IF it turns out to be 100% true.
He walked into a gun shop as a green card carrying, legal alien. Picked out a shiny new Glock ... plopped down $571 and walked out with the gun and a box of ammo.
36 days later he used the same gun to kill 32 people.
IF .... IF this is true ..... you can bet the farm stricter gun laws WILL happen.

""One law enforcement official said Cho's backpack contained a receipt for a March purchase of a Glock 9 mm pistol. Cho held a green card, meaning he was a legal, permanent resident, federal officials said. That meant he was eligible to buy a handgun unless he had been convicted of a felony. Roanoke Firearms owner John Markell said his shop sold the Glock and a box of practice ammo to Cho 36 days ago for $571. "He was a nice, clean-cut college kid. We won't sell a gun if we have any idea at all that a purchase is suspicious," Markell said. Markell said it is not unusual for college kids to make purchases at his shop as long as they are old enough. "To find out the gun came from my shop is just terrible," Markell said. That really would make one sick.
The reality is there is no way to stop something like this short of armed guards, metal detectors and every door would have to have a lock to force every person to be "buzzed in". Next who's go to keep an eye on the security guards.
We just have to accept the realities of a free society and give everyone the ability to defend themselves at all times. (I'm really living in fantasy land with that statement, sigh.)

36 days. Note that not even the much ballyhooed "cooling off"/"waiting" period would have made one iota difference.
Hell, I can MAKE a 9mm submachine gun with unpowered hand tools in less than 36 days...

I heard on the news at noon that the 9mm and the .22 handgun he supposedly had, had the serial numbers filed off.

And, could you do it for a .40? j/k btw, here is another to keep an eye one: Strange, and here I was under just the OPPOSITE impression. Knowing there were others in the room with guns might have kept this coward from doing this, and would have certainly given everyone involved a better chance at survival.

And I repeat--alien or not, sadly, if this guy wanted to kill as many people as he did, he would have found a way, whether he had access to a gun or not. The gun is not the issue--the person operating the gun (or other weapon) is.
I feel really, REALLY badly for the poor guy who owns the gun shop and sold the gun 100% legally...I'm sure he blames himself in some ways or on some level even though there was truly nothing he could have done. My prayers go out to him as well as everyone else...

Research: "The Expedient 9mm Submachinegun" by Philip Luty - Paladin Press, available at Amazon.com. McCarthy is a nut/douche bag kneejerk authoritarian police-state leftist.

Anybody see how NBC tried to spin this part of the story tonight?
My wife and I were both just shaking our heads... Sad thing is, a lot of the public will listen to them and even more will think that "guns are bad"...
Other armed civilians may not have kept this crazy kid from shooting up the place, but I gaurantee that the death toll (and injured) would NOT have been nearly as high...

You are right. Bypassing the dorm murders for the moment, the shooting toll would have still been, at a minimum, 2. One inncent victim, and the Shooter (shot by a lawful citizen).
No one, not even cops, can stop a shooter from making the first shot.... but they can sure as hell attempt to stop his second.

Naturally CBS spun it that way as well, which made me mad...

I never even knew it was tapered.

AFAIC, every American should buy, memorize & hide their own copy... while we can. You can't buy it in Brittian - it's on the Banned Books list. Not bad looking for somthing made out of structural metal tubing and piano wire...
