Report: Michael Moore Takes Ground Zero Responders to Cuba for Medical Treatment Sunday, April 15, 2007 E-MAIL STORY RESPOND TO EDITOR PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION Film director Michael Moore has taken Ground Zero responders to Cuba for medical treatment in a bid to show that Fidel Castro's socialized medicine is better than health care in the U.S., the New York Post reports. The director of "Roger & Me" and "Fahrenheit 9/11" took the responders to Cuba as part of his latest film, "Sicko," which examines American drug companies. The move has angered some who say that Moore is using the ailing Ground Zero workers as "pawns." Click here to read the full report. "He's using people that are in a bad situation and that's wrong; that's morally wrong," Jeff Endean, a former SWAT commander from Morris County, N.J., who spent a month at Ground Zero and suffers from respiratory problems, told the New York Post. But others say the workers were pleased with their Cuban visit. "From what I heard through the grapevine, those people that went are utterly happy," John Feal, who runs the Fealgood Foundation to help raise money for responders, told the Post. "They got the Elvis treatment." BTW, it's illegal for US citizens to visit Cuba, numb nuts, and thanks for tainting those you took with you too!

. . . but what if he has a point? Seriously. I do not care for the man, but he has brought up some interesting things, whether you buy it or not. And I do not think you are actually standing up for 'our' drug companies or 'our' health care system, are you? If so, you must be in the lucky 5-10% of the nation who still has 'real' health insurance, not the bs excuse most of us are using. Drug companies make money as long as you are sick. They could not stay in business if you were cured or healthy. Do the math here.

Of course they got the Elvis treatment, the lobbying for the Cuban embargo hasn't been as hot and heavy as it is now, well, ever.
John, you are right but the real issue there, as far as health care goes, is the increasing cost of insurance for the doctors themselves. You have grade A XXXXXs, like John Edwards, who made his millions by suing small, independant OB-GYN doctors for GENETIC defects in babies they delivered. He put those doctors out of business and forced the larger groups of doctors to take out larger policies in case they were sued.
If the inept group we refer to as congress were to ever get around to TORT REFORM, healthcare overhead would correct itself greatly. Would it be the total answer no. But it really does need to be first step. It should have a similar effect in the pharmecuetical industry.
Also, it is my opinion that the OVERPRESCRIPTION of drugs is at the heart of many of the issues with healthcare. We are making superbugs everyday when we take meds cuz our nose is runny, drink some OJ, eat some chicken soup and stay hydrated.

I'm sorry. I tried to respond but the Michigan City Department of Sanitation cited me for "Polluting a Public Utility" and "Intetionally blocking a main Utility Pipeline with unrefinable filth"...

He is a button pusher. As far as Johns point about drug companies, I don't think it's any secret that drug companies, insurance companies, and the medical business are all in this thing together. They all blame each other in the open during the day to drive prices up, but go to bed together at night.
