What is you all's opinion on hunting the same stand over and over and over again on successive days?

I'll do it only if the conditions are right, mainly the wind. If the wind is in my favor I have no problem hunting the same stand several days in a row.
Another factor for me is activity. If I'm seeing several deer or keying on one deer and not spooking anything, I'll sit tight. But if the winds wrong, or I've recently spooked deer.....I'm outta there and give it some time to settle things down.

Wind is the biggest factor. If the wind is right and I know the deer are working the area, I'll hunt a stand consecutively. But seldom does the wind cooperate. I've got many stands all in good places, so I tend to let the wind dictate my stand choices.

i use different stands according to the wind, especially the archery season. because archery season is so long deer have a better chance to pattern you. in gun season the wind is not so important to me because by the time they smell me Ive already made the decision whether to shoot or not.

I too try to mix up my stand locations.......often times my best days of hunting a particular tree (I use a climber) is the very first day I hunt that spot. Last years deer was killed the first time I went up THAT tree........of course, I was peeing in my pee bottle when he jumped the fence and was in my lap, but that was another story........he still dropped in his tracks when I shot him, thus allowing me to finish relieving myself. (True story)

I guess I don't hunt from a stand as much as a lot here.... I like to be mobile, especially during gun season.
On my own property I'll hunt the same stand a lot (for me), simply because my woods are *really* small (3-4 acres of a larger 300+ acre wooded area). On my family land, I rarely use the same stand more than twice in a season...

I like to let the situation dictate where I'll hunt but I have no problem hunting the same stand two days in a row. If the wind is right and you get in quietly, it makes no difference. Heck, I've even been in a tree the next day after a buddy has hunted and successfully harvested a deer the day before and harvested a deer myself. The situation dictates which tree I'll use.

2 yrs ago i hunted the same stand for 4 days in a row after seeing a nice 9 pointer. then i came to the conclusion after not seeing him "this is stupid" the 5 th day i hunted i went to a different spot but i told a 1st year hunter that he could hunt my ladder stand by the pond because i had seen a small 6 pointer all but one day of the 4 and that he might be able to take it....well you no what happened... he took a very nice 9 pointer instead. guess i should have hunted that same stand. But i usually dont hunt the same spot that heavy

I also try to mix it up, wind depending...2 times in a row max........on our property the deer can be almost anywhere, come from anywhere, so as they keep me guessing I return the favor.. Solohunter

My 2 cents worth and IMHO…
Believe it or not there have been studies on this. Officially, it's called the "Three Day Effect." Several studies have found that by the third day of hunting the same stand, deer sightings--on average--will have dropped dramatically.
There are always going to be a few stand locations that can stay hot all season, such as bottlenecks, escape routes from pressure, etc. But generally the worst thing you can do is to hunt the same stand over and over and over. No matter how hard you try to stay scent-free, your body is giving off odors that linger. Your body is also constantly sluffing off dead skin cells, and they carry scent down and around your stand. Deer will pick up on that scent and begin to avoid the area.
I believe that your best chance to kill a deer is the first time that you hunt the stand. My firm belief is that the more times the stand is hunted, the lower the success rate. You’re compromising that stand each time you go into it.

I agree Woody. I have my own place, the neightbors, and about 6 other farms to hunt within 10 miles of my door, so always have a bunch of different options. Using a climber a lot helps that situation also.

If the stand is situated on a good funnel you can hunt it every day all season long if you want as long as you remain physically undetected , I got both of mine last year from the same ground blind . I routinely walk the trails that crisscross my property and the deer have become used to my smell and that of a quad , they continue to use those trails at the same rate regardless . I've always felt that scent control was probably the most overrated tactic in contemporary hunting when it comes to hunting the same place repeatedly , and I was right . Controlling scent may help in other situations , but not enough to waste huge amounts of money on .

I couldn`t agree more with your assessment-unfortunately, I have access to only 2 extremely small areas to deer hunt. I have 2 ladder stands, and if I wish to hunt every day during gun season, I have no choice but to use these stands every day.

I think it's a bad idea. I use a climber and move around a lot. Two days in a row in the same tree is usually the max for me, Then I will move, but sometimes not far. If the area is hot, I can move 100 yds. or so and still get a shot at the same deer.

I have a summet climber, the Goliath, but I don`t like climbers very well, I usually hunt from ladder stands. Maybe it`s time to start using the climber.

Hunting the same stand twice will definitely bring lower deer numbers. MY 26 years of scientific evidence is proof of that. I only hunt from climbers now and hunt different locations nearly every time. Leaving the climber in the tree over night also seems like bad voo doo. I do the whole Scent Loc as do most of you, but it only helps a few percentage points at best.

I like hunting close to the same area....moving 100 yards statement couldn't be more true. That is a great point and is what we use on a daily basis. We will sometimes move a ladder stand in mid-day, and last year we killed 3 deer on the days we moved ladder stands and then hunted them that night! However, I hunted a stand 3 days in a row till I got the 8 pointer I shot last season so who knows!! I buck doesn't really travel too far from his home turf when not rutting....
