In a new spot trying to ambush these bucks I keep seeing cruising this power cut. Nothing yet but a few coons.

Beautiful morning. Turkeys flying down around me and a buck grunting his head off across the valley.

Giving my property a break this weekend since I hunted it pretty hard the first 3 weeks of the season. Will be back at it next weekend and then 10 out of the first 14 days of November.

Would you mind telling me what area of the state you're seeing that deer? I had one on trail camera last year with very similar brows.

Pretty slow day for me until about 6:30pm. Saw 4 bucks all in the same creek bottom about 200 yards away. Got video of the biggest one making a rub and scrape. Two of the smaller 8pts sparred a bit. Will upload the video of the larger 8pt later.

So do you have to hunt in pairs or what?

Where are you guys planning on meeting. A lot of times we swing over to the steak house on Clifty Dr. Across from the Wendy's. I thought about putting a new post up looking for a guy. Thought maybe a guy on here wasn't drawn or a guy knew a buddy that would want to go. I have section 36....which has not been to bad the other times I have had it. So I'm ignorant to Big Oaks' process, and I am at my camp right down the road near Madison. What do you need out of a guy? I will be hunting in Switzerland County Friday and then going on a pheasant hunt Saturday over in Mitchell, but I may be able to help out Sunday morning.

EHD affected deer will sometimes hold their velvet too.. I would say that would be likely, as 2 years ago was a bad year in our area.

My dad shot this buck 2 years ago on 10/18. Velvet was "dry" and antlers were hard. No signs of damage to the jewels. Never really figured out what was going on, figured it was a sort of testosterone deficiency.

Sticking around a week later, though his bedding area (power line right of way) is being logged right now.

arlowe13, those does look a bit thin to me. I can see ribs and hip bones. Is that normal for your area? Yeah, they're starting to put on the weight now. They have plenty of food. Even on some of the younger bucks, I was seeing some ribs.

Will be heading out to my blind after work at 11pm. sleep till 5:30am get up and walk the rest of the way to my stand. This way if there are any in the field I won't spook them away in the morning. I only have about a 1/8 mile walk to my stand from my blind. If I were to walk out in the morning it would be a half mile walk. A couple of my stands are a 3/4 mile walk or more, I feel ya.
