Why would a 150"+ buck still be in velvet? I saw him Saturday night and took a buddy from work to see him last night and he looks to still be completely in velvet. The first time I saw him, he was following 3 does around a pasture, but last night he was laying about 60 yards off the road by himself. I thought he looked like he was in velvet saturday, but last night it was pretty obvious.
Going to have to go back tonight and take another look.

I just got trail cam pictures of a funky racked 1-1/2 old that still has his velvet on. Looked like it had dried to the antlers. I'm honestly hoping that he sticks around for the next couple years because his funky rack could turn into a big funky rack

When I was in highschool back in the mid 80's my buddies dad shot a buck in gun season that still had velvet. The buck did not have any testicals. It's rare but it does happpen.

I know cwd alot of times effects them shedding velvet but usually it's not a full velvet rack. Just big chunks here and there. Least that's what Wyoming fish and game officer told me when we had to shoot one on the ranch I hunted on our there. If the deer looked remotely healthy, it wasn't cwd. If you've never seen one in person infected with it, count yourself lucky.

I'll have to post some pics off of my tablet when I get a chance. Basically he has a typical basket rack on his left side. Then on his right he has one 8" tine going straight up and another beam/tine (not sure) going straight down the side of his face about 4" long.

When I was in highschool back in the mid 80's my buddies dad shot a buck in gun season that still had velvet. The buck did not have any testicals. It's rare but it does happpen. The first big buck I ever shot was a big non typical, especially on his right side. When I went to go field dress him I noticed that his testical on his left side was literally the size of a small grapefruit and nothing on the other. It also had nipples like a doe and a dried up milk sack on the inside. Very strange. Ultimately I shot the deer when he followed a drag rag in with some doe in heat and then came right into a doe decoy. Even better I was only in the stand for maybe 5 minutes when it all went down.
I was told later on by a biologist that sometimes injuries and genetic defects will affect antler growth and testosterone levels that will make deer like this not be territorial or even feel the need to breed.
Anyhow very strange...

My dad shot this buck 2 years ago on 10/18. Velvet was "dry" and antlers were hard. No signs of damage to the jewels. Never really figured out what was going on, figured it was a sort of testosterone deficiency.
