To all of my liberal, left leaning friends -
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2024, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other countries nor the only "America" in the Western Hemisphere. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishes.
To my right leaning, conservative friends -
Merry Christmas, God Bless You, and best of luck in the coming "Happy" New Year.

What is alpha- gal and how did it cause anaphylaxis shock? Onebentarrow That is caused by a tick bite and makes you allergic to mammal meat, milk, cheese. Anything but chicken or fish. My reaction was severe almost causing my death. Passing out repeatedly, fell broke my nose and head cuts. Swelled my eyes shut and my tongue blocking my airway. Only reason I survived was given Epi pen by ambulance paramedics. WOW! Is it a permanent condition or will the systems decrease over time? Onebentarrow

Not so much getting old but leaving things unsaid and undone. I was told by the ER doctor who treated me in June for anaphylactic shock caused by alpha-gal that I was as close to death as a person can get with out dying if that makes sense. I plan on living a long life but dying doesn’t scare me anymore, it’s part of life. What is alpha- gal and how did it cause anaphylaxis shock? Onebentarrow

If you have a camera that will send pictures to your phone and you suspend the plan will the camera store pictures on a card like a regular camera? I saw one of the cameras that send pictures to phone on sale as cheap as a low budget regular camera. I like running cameras all winter in to spring but do not need emediat update for the entire time so if I could have a plan for a couple months to recieve pictures and then cancel plan and use as regular camera for rest that would be best of both worlds and would not have to have two separate cameras to accomplish what I want to do.

Loosing my eye sight/going blind. With out that ALL my hobbies and likes would be taken away. Fishing, hunting, bees, cutting and splitting fire wood, wood working, flower beds, home improvement/repairs along with not being to watch the lake or see the woods in the fall or snow in winter Even tho I have trouble doing some of them because of knee and back pain I can still enjoy them to some extent and when I can't I Can read or watch a vedio protaining to them to help pass the time. With out my sight I would feel useless and lost And don't think life would be worth liveing. Even tho I hurt I can still do those things, to some extent. I may pay for it the next couple days but that is the way it is.

Please be advised that all personnel planning to dash through the snow in a one-horse open sleigh, going over the fields and laughing all the way are required to undergo a Risk Assessment addressing the safety of open sleighs. This assessment must also consider whether it is appropriate to use only one horse for such a venture, particularly where there are multiple passengers. Please note that permission must also be obtained in writing from landowners before their fields may be entered. To avoid offending those not participating in celebrations, we request that laughter is moderate only and not loud enough to be considered a noise nuisance.
Benches, stools and orthopaedic chairs are now available for collection by any shepherds planning or required to watch their flocks at night. While provision has also been made for remote monitoring of flocks by CCTV cameras from a centrally heated shepherd observation hut, all facility users are reminded that an emergency response plan must be submitted to account for known risks to the flocks.
The angel of the Lord is additionally reminded that prior to shining his/her glory all around s/he must confirm that all shepherds are wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment to account for the harmful effects of UVA, UVB and the overwhelming effects of Glory.
Following last year’s well publicised case, everyone is advised that EC legislation prohibits any comment with regard to the redness of any part of Mr. R. Reindeer. Further to this, exclusion of Mr. R Reindeer from reindeer games will be considered discriminatory and disciplinary action will be taken against those found guilty of this offence. While it is acknowledged that gift-bearing is commonly practised in various parts of the world, everyone is reminded that the bearing of gifts is subject to Hospitality Guidelines and all gifts must be registered. This applies regardless of the individual, even royal personages. It is particularly noted that direct gifts of currency or gold are specifically precluded under provisions of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Further, caution is advised regarding other common gifts, such as aromatic resins that may initiate allergic reactions. Finally, in the recent case of the infant found tucked up in a manger without any crib for a bed, Social Services have been advised and will be arriving shortly.
Compliance of these guidelines is advised in order for you to fully participate with the festive spirit.

This spike followed 2 does across the bottom of the hay field east of me and they entered in front of the other blind just after 4:30 pm. The does fed around the creek bottom while the spike headed back south along the creek. The does finally moved south into the thick creek bottom and suddenly all 3 ran up a saddle that deer often use to get up on the ridge about 50 yards out. The does headed directly for my blind and looked like they were going to walk right by it. The spike peeled off a little like it was going to head back down the saddle and I went ahead and took the shot at about 35 yards. I usually stay off the shoulders as much as possible and have taken head shots on does and button bucks that close. There was just so much brush that my only open shot was high shoulders. Heard a lot about that shot, but never took it before because we use the shoulder roasts and blade steaks in with the roast. When I touched the trigger, he went nowhere but down. Shooting a CVA Scout V2 45/70 converted to smokeless muzzleloader. Load for this year was 55 grains H4198 and 200 .40 caliber Hornady SST in a Harvester smooth blue .45 sabot. I had used that bullet before in a sabot for a .50 bp muzzleloader and really liked it. First time using it in a smokeless and I still like it! 😎 I want to know what you think of the shoulder shot when you get dune butchering. I took one once. Never again if I can help it. Way to much meat damage for me. I prefer double lung shot just under shoulder blade. Onebentarrow

Nephews deer this year. He did the European. Mount himself Because of work and a 3 mth old and 2 small boys he did not get to hunt much. He was happy he got the opertunity to take a deer and I am happy for him. His mom and dad did not hunt so he tagged along with me every chance he got. Had him in deer camp sitting in blinds when he was 7 yrs old. Was involved in his 1st deer with bow, first buck and first out of state hunt where he got a 10 pt. Kind of proud of him. Got another nephew on her side was about the same and just as proud of him to. Was with him on first goose and first catch of a mountable fish when he was 9. Nothing better than being with a young child out enjoying the outdoors. Onebentarrow

Went and pulled cards at farm today and got a nice surprise. Had a few good pictures of the buck I took on one camera. I do not have the slightest idea how to get them from there to here but I will play with it and maby post pictures in the future. Also had a buck that was wider than mine but short tines and less mass.

I have a trail camera at a friend of mine’s house, and I haven’t seen a deer on camera in WEEKS. Last night, he sent me a video a little after dark, just pointing his cell phone into the patch of woods and the coyotes sounded like something out of a nightmare. I grew up near a condensed coyote population, but this sounded like A LOT of them. Have you ever seen an entire deer population “disappear” because the coyotes got too thick?? I’m currently pricing NV scopes and 22mag rifles because I’ll not be tolerating this long. The spot that camera in is surrounded by non huntable state land. One side is cut soybeans and the other side of the road is cut corn for about a mile. This seemed like a very promising spot at the beginning of the season. I had a couple of really big bucks, a bunch of does and every doe I saw had twin or triplet yearlings. Last deer I got on camera was the first week of November. Same happened to me around 5 years ago but no yotes. I had been seeing deer in archery then about 2nd week of November nothing. No deer,no sign nothing. We got a snow in muzzeloder season so I walked the aera after 3 days on the ground and saw just 2 sets of tracks. I donot know where they went or why but the next year they were back for the whole season. Good luck on your quest Onebentarrow

Great story and good teaching for others. You learn from your mistakes and telling them may help some one else not make that mistake congratulations on the two deer!

One deer. 2 nights hotel stay. Cost to get drawn at atterbury. New stuff I had to have... don't want to know the cost per pound. Shot one deer. I don't hunt to save money on meat. Way cheaper to buy a cow. By choice. First deer in probably close to ten years. It's not about the savings for me I understand that whole heartedly. My post was just an observation of prices and the value of the meat in the deer and a way to apericiate the hobby of hunting just a little more. Not a dig at anyone. Onebentarrow
