I was in the woods yesterday trying to retrieve one of my stands. Daylight was leaving quickly so I made my way to the tree as quickly as possible. I climbed up 10-12 feet in height and began unbuckling straps and such. When it came time to remove the chain, I drew a rubber mallot and smashed it into the chain several times with no success. I noticed that the mallot appeared to be furry and became quite confused. I soon realized that it was covered in wasps!! OH S*&% I thought, and I was stung once or twice right above my right temple! Honestly it felt like a nail went into my head. Adrenaline quickly surged through my body as I realized that I was about to be in serious trouble. The last time I got stung my throat got very tight! I let go with my left hand and hung by my right. I must have jumped but the next thing I knew I was on the ground running. I got the hell out of there, but still no stand. For the year, nature 1, Jason 0. I lost that battle but not the war. I will have my revenge 8/15/05 if you catch my drift! Be safe all and good hunting!

Wasps are bad dudes for sure.
Glad it wasn't any worse..
I was up to my place two days ago and another one of my stands is gone..
That bothers me.. But what bothers me more is that someone would trade their soul for a treestand..
I feel sorry for them selling out that cheap...

The last thing that drove me out of a tree was Montezuma's Revenge ...

I got to be the lucky one to find a bees nest while doing yard work with the church Saturday. Only got stung once but my left wrist swelled pretty good. But really I'm glad it was me instead of someone alerigic or one of the young kids that may not have relized what they was into.

Just curious....what do you mean by this?
"When it came time to remove the chain, I drew a rubber mallot and smashed it into the chain several times with no success."
Just got my first hangon this year and am probably not familiar with the procedures.

My hang on stand is a Strong built. Its main way of attaching to the tree involves a chain that wraps around the tree and inserts into a notch. It fits in there very tightly. In the past I couldn't even pull it out with my hands. It literally takes a mallet to smash the chain hard enough to knock it out of the notch, thus making the stand fall.
