Some really cool history! On my way back from Arkansas I decided to Google up some decent BBQ joints. Homer's seemed like a good option near the river, downtown Henderson and they did not disappoint. Brisket grilled cheese with some Alabama White sauce was awesome: So, I decided to take a quick walk down to the river as I was checking emails and messages. And I see this guy's statue. A history lesson for the ages. This is the hometown of Husband Edward Kimmel, the man in charge and the convenient scapegoat of the disaster at Pearl Harbor. He has since been partially exonerated since evidence has surfaced in recent years that he and General Short were kept in the dark of information and armament kept secret by FDR and his staff. And the area is chock full of John James Audubon history. along with a nice museum to his honor: A little more history about General Stovepipe Johnson and His short capture of Newburgh with his cannon, a stovepipe mounted on wheels. I had to look this one up. Railing with a ton of "Locks attached!" Apparently, something that got started years ago with couples wanting to demonstrate their endless love for each other. That was a quick lunch and message check. My wife and I plan to go back to spend a little more time!

Thank you Larry. There is a lot of history along the Ohio River and It's tributaries.
From an old Muzzle Blasts magizine. Audubon used a piece of wax over the powder. Charged with water instead of shot and another piece of wax to seal in the water. This was his load to collect specimens. Sometimes the wax wads hit the birds. Sometimes the water did not disable them.
Now what did come out to the kitchen for?

I was in the Ky. Lake area yesterday and found some BBQ as well. We went to Jay Mack's in Carson City. Good stuff! My brother told me Homers was good I need to try that one soon, disposable income is at a premium right now though.

Check out Thomasons BBQ next time you’re there. Used to stop in there every couple of weeks when I was working.
