I saw several really big flocks of sandhills- hundreds- over the house today. East edge of Terre Haute. Moving north.
Somewhat early I think...

They have been here pretty much all winter except for when it was below zero. There's a pair that nests close by, they hatched 2 last year but something got them before they could fly. I'm thinking coyotes.

They were on the move for sure. It seems about right to me. They are like snow geese. This time of the year they move north as soon as they can. If conditions slide back into unfavorable they reverse directions.

Yep, I heard them flying over. Sometimes they are so high you can't hardly see them.

It is sometimes to locate them they fly so high. There has been a pair here in NW Allen county for a couple of years. Last year was the first time I saw them with young.

I didn't put much stock on Phil's prediction until I saw the Sandhills flying north on the same day. I think he might be onto something this year.

I was out trying to view Venus in my telescope yesterday morning around 9 (yeah it's possible to do that during the day!) and a pretty good size flock of them flew over.
