I went to a local gun auction this weekend and made a couple of purchases. I have at least 750 rounds of 22 magnum rounds and the only 22 magnum weapon I have is a little 5 shot North American Arms mico revolver. I needed a rifle to help fire some of the ammo I had. I found a Western Field model 822 which is the same gun as a Mossberg model 640 22 mag. I bought it and toward the end of the auction, a lot of buyers had left one of the last guns sold was a Savage model 10 Predator in 204 Ruger. It looks like it has never been fired. I got a really good deal on it 275 bucks. I have never fired a round of 204 Ruger. I know it is close to a 223. I order 100 rounds through Midway.50 rounds are 32 grain V max and the other 50 are 40 grain V max. Has anybody had any experience with the 204 Ruger round? What are your thoughts on this round as a coyote killer?? I'm waiting on some scope rings for the 22mag. The Savage had a 4x12x50 Vortex scope on it.

You got a screaming deal on it. When I was in Colorado elk hunting a few years ago one of the guides had a .204 Ruger in the truck as a truck gun. He loves it for coyotes and he popped one as we were driving around at about 300 yds. He said the wind blows the light bullet quite a bit but it typically doesn't exit so the fur damage is minimal. He really liked it. I can't remember what weight bullet he was shooting in it, and I didn't ask if it was factory or handloaded ammo.
FWIW, I've had good luck finding scope rings on Amazon and they showed up a lot faster than from Midway, etc.
