I have a Ruger American in 308 and the Ruger American Ranch rifle in 350 legend. Both are fantastic guns and I’ll probably end up with a Gen 2 in 300 win mag. I have a really nice long range scope from crimson trace that I’ve been waiting to put on something.

I ended up buying the Ruger American (Go Wild camo) in the 350 Legend. Put a Leupold 3x9 VX Freedom pre-calibrated for the 350 on it. Really anxious to see how she performs. The Gen 2 looks like a really good piece.

It will be interesting to read some of the reviews and handle the actual rifles when they make it to the stores.

That big box magazine sticking out the bottom is pretty dumb for any kind of a sporting rifle in my opinion. Gets in the way when taking a rest in some positions.

I went into one of the local gun shops near me and they had two of the new Gen II standard models in stock.
Good looking rifles. Triggers seem good. I'm not a fan of the magazines, but many people like them.
One was chambered in 6.5 creedmoor and the other was chambered in .308. The price on either rifle was $699.

We got our first one tonight....chambered in 204 Ruger. It is a LOT of improvement for less money than the previous Go Wild. Much better stock, fluted barrel, threaded and a brake, adjustable comb and LOP, bolt is smoother, trigger is better and at $579. As for the magazine, they had to address the feeding issues from the rotary mags in the first generation. Using AI mags that are proven and available everywhere at very good prices makes a ton of sense.

I think just the brake.

You can buy thread protectors cheap on the internet. I know, but I'm just a bit surprised that Ruger didn't include one.

I've never had any trouble with the flush mags on any of my 3 Americans. However, you overlooked the most important improvement of this newest iteration of Ruger American and that is the 3 position safety. I wish even my rimfires had a 3 position safety to lock the bolt handle where it is supposed to be.

As for the magazines, glad yours work well but problems with the rotary mags in the the Americans are fairly common. Going to AICS gives lots of options on a standardized set up. I have them on 4 of my rifles and they perform and feed great.
