I was relaying a story to my grandkids the other day. Told them how one of my fondest memories in the days before Christmas was laying on the living room floor with my younger brother, piggyback on me as we drooled over all that we dreamed of in the Sears Christmas Catalog! Computers were not even a thought. It was funny to them that we could spend so many hours with that catalog. That’s when I asked if I could see their phones and we’d check their usage! Fun memories! youtu.be/tZrCYL1JpqY?si=KOKf42bc_eO9SJrw

With a family of seven, we would wear out the Sears Christmas Catalog. The good old days. Better built products, fast-big beautiful cars, and best long rocking music that had feelings or stories within the song. Nothing but 2 or 3 minute noise bites today.

After seeing the intial post, I googled the 1970 catalog. Sure brought back memories. If one of my buddies got theirs before we got ours.....it was just painful waiting on that durn thing to come in the mail. Appreciate you bringing back the memories!

At one time you could buy a complete kit to build a house from Sears. Concrete block, mortar, framing, fasteners, sheathing, doors, windows, roofing, siding, drywall, trims, cabinets, plumbing material & fixtures, electrical wiring & components, etc. Delivered, drop shipped to your location with plans.

And now we have Amazon. I am not sure if you could buy the materials to build a house but I think you could come close.
There are gun collectors that specialize on the different variations of store brand guns.
A lot of good stuff too. I think Mom's Kenmore Washer and Dryer lasted well over 20 years and that is raising the last 5 of us on the good old cloth diapers. That plus Dad could just go over on Brooklyn Ave and get what ever parts he needed to keep the family in clean clothes.

I guess I'm getting old, but I can remember when the Anderson Public Library was the old Sears building back in the day! I have a full box of 16 gauge hunting loads marked Sears Sportload on the box! Then they moved from there to the Mounds Mall which I believe was one of the first consolidated malls they ever built. Now it sits there empty waiting on the wrecking ball as it was supposed to be flooded for the proposed new reservoir project that will probably never happen.

It was my main deer meat freezer and only got cleaned out and defrosted once a year in Sept to get ready for the next season! I tried to look up parts for it when it died, and that's when I found out how old it was!

There's one on the West side of Evansville, the siding has been replaced but the original siding was pretty wild. It eas almost like large pieces of tile with grout in between.

I was cleaning out a closet at my parents' house recently and found two catalogs from 1979. One is Sears and the other is Pennys or Wards. Brought back some memories of circling things and making wish lists.

Sears, Monkey Wards, J.C. Whitney (Archer & State Street in Chicago), Penny's, Radio Shack. I have a Kenmore electric stove that I am using that Mom & Dad bought new in 1953. I think I still have the receipt for it....... It is wider than the typical stoves today, the burner on the left rear flips up and you can drop a soup pot down in it to cook. It also has a timer to delay start cooking something in the oven. Oven is on the right, broiler is on the left down low, and below the oven is a drawer to store pots n pans. It is a push button electric.

It does not surprise me. Too bad they do not handle powder and primers. Since they own the shipping they do not charge Hazmet. Found that out when I could not find Kroil local. Brownells had it but with the can I wanted shipping and Hazmet brought it to over $50. Amazon's price was about $12.

I did not know it was once a Sears, the one at 10th and Jackson, now the Museum of Art? I heard the lake wasn't going to happen because it used to be a dump? I've been gone since 89, but was born and raised there. Loved fishing at Aqua Gardens, everybody says there isn't anything in there, but I always caught something, still do when I get back home. Was there a couple weeks ago to visit family after our hunting trip, the city is looking pretty sad...SF Woody
