This past year I have been noticing signs of shortness of breath and some chest pains when doing strenuous work, going up flights of stairs, or walking some distance. I like most guys try to blow it off as getting older or just out of shape. Well my daughter-in-law, who is a nurse, kept insisting I get a checkup. I finally went in for a stress test and the treadmill part about did me in. The doctor told the nurse to slow the treadmill down and bring it to a stop. Once I stepped off the treadmill the doctor told her to place a nitro tablet under my tongue as I was getting close to having a heart attack. The doctor looked at me and said you failed.
By now I figured the getting older or plain out of shape theory wasn’t going anywhere. Next thing I knew they scheduled a catheter appointment for me the next morning and up to a hospital room I went.
Early in the morning I got a free ride on a cart to the catheter room. Once on the table they somehow put this tiny scope wire in a vein in my wrist and snaked it up the vein to my heart. Found out I had 3 blockages in my artery. One 99% another 85% and one more at 75% closed.
In less than an hour they were finished placing stents in those areas and sending me back to the room. After a few hours of waiting for the spot to coagulate where they entered the vein in my wrist they said I would be discharged and could go home. This all played out from 8:30 am till 7:00 pm and I was headed home.
So don’t be bullheaded like me and do get a checkup if you feel something isn’t quite right.

Yes, glad you finally decided it was time for a check up. Probably saved your life or at a minimum saved a lot less problems and stress.

BTDT…but not to the extent that you did. Sounds like just about cashed in your chips.
I had a few problems when my wife was in the hospital in 2018 for 6 weeks. I chalked it off to anxiety. Since part of her problem was a minor heart attack that snuck up on her I thought I’d get checked. I had the stress test which was inconclusive on part of my heart and the doc said the only way to be sure is go in and look. He did and found a couple veins 75 to 80% blocked. I got those stinted and I am doing fine so far.
Listen to your body folks.

Good advice. Sounded like the old thunderbolt was right around the corner. Glad you dodged it.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It may prompt others (like me) to get things checked out earlier rather than later. We can blame a lot of symptoms on "just getting older".
God bless, and may you get well quickly!

Great advice. Check it early is a good idea vs being to late.
