On a Michigan forum I watch, guys said they saw actual breeding as early as Oct 9th. They are definitely way ahead of us for mature deer sightings and daylight movement so far.

Have seen a doe bred on my farm a few years back, so have a good idea when the breeding starts locally. ( That was Nov.2nd), so I always base my vacation and hunting around that date. I figure from 11-2 to 11-16 is pretty much peak breeding and when I try to spend the majority of my time in the tree. (Has worked pretty well.)

So do you want to hunt the "lockdown" when bucks are locked with a doe that is in estrus or do you want to hunt the chase phase when bucks are out actively looking for does?

Seeking ,chasing breeding is a contious cycle until all doe's are bred. I hunt them all and have killed mature bucks in each phase.

I believe a buck breeds a doe for however long that lasts and then on to find the next "hot" doe.

I've never been much of a believer in "lockdown". Bucks are "wham, bam, thank you maam" and they are then onto searching out other does that are coming in. Individual does do not stay in heat very long at all. Even if a buck is with a doe she still has to eat and get water. She will move and he will move with her. I made 2 soft grunts and a snort wheeze from 80 yds Way. He bristtled up and stiffed legged walked to within 5 yards of me. Rest is his history.

I know the deer are moving. I've seen more on the park in three days than the last month.
