Has anybody seen when Mike Braun has introduced a Bill to double the size of Deam Wilderness? There is an accompanying Bill to use 30,000 acres to the south and east of Deam Wilderness as a Federal Recreational Area. They want to build mountain bike trails and ATV trails.
I can't find the article I read to share it, but I commented NO on the recreational area. Hoosier National Forest does not need ATV trails. Also, I see this as the bunny butt buffer groups using these as a backdoor to prevent the state's foresters from proper forest management and selective logging.

I gave up on Mike Braun when he tried introducing a bill to get rid of qualified immunity for law enforcement a few years back. He tried to walk it back and camouflage it as something else. He also claimed that the Indiana Sheriff's Association supported it. Thankfully, Tucker Carlson called him out on that lie. I have zero concern for what he wants.

A bit of snooping....the pres of the Forrest alliance owns a cabin and property that would be surrounded by the new expansion of the wilderness area. Of course he wants to control what his neighbors do. It only cost him a donation to Braun.
Why is the wilderness area bad? 1. Not in fire protection/management 2. Not able to harvest lumber 3. No wheeled equipment which includes tractors, deer carts, bikes, 4 wheelers etc... 4. No engines, which includes chainsaws. Trees that block trails are cleared with hand powered equipment. Ever tried to cut a 30 inch oak out of a trail with a 2-man cross cut saw or double bit ax? 5. Ever try to maintain trails without modern equipment? Hnf uses a team of mules, no wheels on carts. Run graders and plows, haul gravel etc...no exceptions except for the small right of way along public roads in and adjacent to the area. 6. The current manpower in the hnf is not able to complete all the tasks to maintain the trails that currently exist. Doubling it would put them further behind.
What is the purpose of these restrictions? To give users a feel of what it may have been 200 yrs ago. The Deam has lake monroe on one border and several roads that intersect it. There is not 1 spot in the dead that you would not know you were in the current year. Boats, airplanes, vehicles on the road...and the neighbors. Maybe they should surround the Forrest alliance president 's property and make them walk from a trailhead.
Rules are made to benefit a few. It is not good for the state or the environment or hunting.

Here is why Jeff Stant wants to expand the wilderness area. His 100ish acres just south of nebo ridge. Has nothing to do with protecting anything but his wealth. If they do make this into wilderness the private lands that are totally surrounded should be equally limited in modern practices. Hike or ride horses in and out. No power lines, no generators, no bikes, no vehicles, no chainsaws...you know a true 200 yr old wilderness setting.
