My wife and grandson have been to Otter Creek near Columbus, IN for another of his golf tournaments. My wife said she saw a car drive through a “red arrow” south bound US 31 turning left on 25th Street. The “straight through lights” were still red. She thought that was odd! Then this morning, my grandson was driving (learners permit) and he was sitting at the same Red arrow. The guy behind him was honking and fist pumping and flipping them off. The arrow and through lights were all red! With all the incidents of road rage these days Grandma was pretty nervous. I’m working in Ohio and she called me to ask if they were doing something wrong!? Or was there some new law of which she was not aware!? I told her that to the best of my knowledge, you are not allowed to turn on a red left arrow until it turns green or yellow in some cases. And ok to a left “one way” And none was the case the past few days! Anybody know, am I missing something? Is there another law of which I am not aware? Or maybe something specific to this intersection in Columbus?

Just not sure you could consider 31 a one-way street there idk for sure but I'm thinking no go, regardless

Assuming I have the right intersection pulled up (25th and hwy31 in Columbus) I would say no way is a left turn permitted on any red light. Looks like 2 way traffic all the way around. I'm no angel but if your wife and grandson didn't miss the green arrow or something then there's no reason for this guy yo be upset. And if they did miss it that certainly wouldn't constitute running the red light. The worst part of dealing with people is dealing with people. My son will get his permit soon, I'm not particularly looking forward to it both from a money standpoint and a worried parent standpoint but in my opinion we can't keep them locked in their rooms

They did everything just right. That’s typical drivers in Columbus. We are there all the time and I’m amazed by what we see just driving around there. My daughter is about to get her permit as well and I’m somewhat timid about it just because of other people. The road rage is out of control. Also, she tends to have my temper (which I’ve been trying to control better especially if the kids are with me) and I need to teach her to just chill when driving because just never know what other people will do.

The only way a left turn on red would be legal is if you enter the intersection when it’s green. Then make the turn as soon as it goes to red to clear the intersection .

Mlk street exit downtown, most diamond intersection off ramps. Unless something has recently changed, you can turn left on a red light from a one-way onto a one-way

I agree, one way to a one way.

We have a flashing green left arrow here that lets you turn if you can when clear… on coming doesn’t stop!

Pretty sure that is statewide..

You can still turn on yellow. Not red. At least as long as the yellow last long enough.

If it's a one way left to a one way left street then there should be only a yellow blinking arrow and only go red if someone pushes the cross button to cross if there is one. Maybe the process is wrong for that left turn. There are still a lot of old out dated dumb intersection lights. I liked living in Fort Wayne except for the intersections. A lot of bad controlled no go intersections.

I was at Purdue yesterday morning and heading straight into campus. Well at one of the intersections I was waiting for the light to go green to head straight, and a truck all done up in MAGA flags and stuff comes up behind me. Right before the light goes green he honks at me to start moving! Impatient driver I guess. I never start edging forward before the light goes green unless I have been at the intersection enough times to be able to predict what it's going to do. People just don't seem to care about intersection safety as much any more. When I was little, and even just ten years ago, people were far more respectful and waited for the proper timing to do something. I've also been having more and more speeders (going 10 miles plus over the limit), more and more passers passing in a solid yellow line zone, and more and more passing or trying to pass two or more vehicles at one time. Had an accident nearly happen because the cat that was behind the one behind me started passing both of us so they could speed, and the car behind me wanted to do the same thing. Right as the cars were about level with each other the driver behind me started trying to pass and didn't see the other vehicle. Thankfully they saw it in time, probably scared them pretty bad. Now granted I'm going the speed limit. They both ended up passing me and both took off speeding more than 10 miles over the limit. Lots of lawlessness now, drivers who don't care about the rules will become even more prevalent. Even at stop lights.

When I go to work and home I drive a little faster than I prefer and that's ten miles over the speed limit. I prefer 5 to 7 over at most. I try to stay 10 below the average speed of the traffic so that someone don't run into the back of me. A friend is an Ohio State Trooper and he told me he understands and best to stay within 10 miles per hour under, but no more than 10. Best 5-10 slower. More than 10 and you become an issue.

Stopped at a red light I never take off as soon as it turns green. I look both ways first. Lots of yellow/red light runners down here. I was taught defensive driving.
Lloyd is a amateur NASCAR raceway. Lots of way over speeding and darting in and out of traffic to get ahead of someone else..only to be caught by a red light at the next intersection.
I stay under 7 mph over the limit.. on the Lloyd that can get you run over .

She told me the other night that that saved her being in a crash by someone blowing through the red light. It happens all the time at all times of the day and night here. I am not sure if they are distracted or just do not care. I really wish they would put the cameras up to ticket vehicles that have drivers that ignore the lights. If you drive 10 MPH over the limit around here you get a ticket... for impeding traffic.

It's time to be the law since the police can't be.
