I barely squeaked out of another weekend, out of state job! So at least I will have a few hours tomorrow to get ready for Sunday’s opener. At this point, I feel good at the prospect of just sitting in a stand and watching the world go by! If anybody else is as unprepared as me, then, we are in the same camp!

Nothing like winding down while watching nature do it’s thing. Way better than work for sure.

Be ready and getting ready can be stressful for sure especially if you’re not hunting out your back door…. BTDT
Personally I usually have to be off 2 complete days to travel then prepare…..

I’m not prepared either. Still haven’t shot my bow yet. Just screwed together a rifle a few minutes ago and barely squeezed by with a good head spacing. Tonight we need to shoot my sons 6.5 Creedmoor Tikka T3x looking for loads it would like for his upcoming Coues Whitetail hunt in AZ at the end of October. Just put the scope on it and squared it all up last night. I’m at least a month behind compared to usual years. Ugh.

Can’t exactly say I “threw” together a load but after much research and past experience I think we may have found a load my sons rifle may like. He shot this group this evening at 150 yds. Barnes 130 grain tsx and H4350 powder netted this group. Turns this was the hottest load, we noticed as the load charge went up the groups got tighter and tighter. I’m not gonna go no hotter as that was .3 grains above max…but…the brass extracted great. So I’m not worried. Now I’m gonna mess with seating depth and get my chronograph out and see where we are. Maybe tomorrow I shoot my bow.

You are not alone my friend! The new crossbow is giving me fits trying to get it dialed in. Just received some custom arrows for it so maybe this weekend I can get it done. Too dang hot to be serious about hunting anyway. If I knew where a big buck was bedding at, maybe I would be more excited about the opener.

I'm hanging two stands on state land tomorrow suppose to buy two blinds tomorrow but thinking about forgetting about buying the blinds. I don't see myself hunting out of one this year.

I didn’t realize how unprepared I was until I saw this post and realized it’s only a day away! So I spent the last hour dragging gear and clothes out to my fire pit to smoke them out before putting them in my box of pine needles for the ride to the hunting ground. Broke my bow down and put it in the case in the truck. I’m leaving the gear box in the sun tomorrow. Let the nature smells fester. All that’s left is to pack some snacks tomorrow night.

Like several of you all, I'm not as ready as I wanted to be, but ready or not its coming. Its going to be a little easier knowing its going to be in the 80's most of the week, but then a big cool down. My season will have to wait a week due to my dad having a procedure on his heart this coming Thursday. I have to fly out to Texas Wednesday to be with him through the next weekend.
Good luck to all !

Always more important things than hunting. Hope everything turns out well for your dad. I don’t get too concerned with hunting until after the kids fall break. Even then it’s too warm at times. The good times will be here before we know it.

I too am unprepared this season. Just procured my permission property this morning. Still haven't checked stands or shot my bow yet. Good thing I have a couple weeks before I get to serious about hunting!

I helped hang 6 stands in past 7 days. And by help, I mean watch and drop pins.
I dusted the ol crossbow off and sent one at 50. Bullseye. Hold top of back at 100...should be good. The limbs started to get fuzzy, should I just sand those off? I would hate to get fiberglass splinters in my hand.
Just kidding guys...I shot 2x. Way over prepared now.

I had spaced the fact that the leg zippers on my old camo bibs have failed terribly. I'm too cheap to just run out and spend $300 for new camo, especially when it's only a problem with the zippers. They've been wearing bad for years and I've tried all sorts of remedies, graphite, dry lubes, soap, etc. They're just shot. So Mama and me put our heads together and popped a few snap fasteners in place. That'll do me for now:

My two main stands are ready. Thats enough IF I decide to hunt early. All bucks I have on camera are nocturnal as of today.
Me? Probably not... I dont even get serious until the third week in October

Meantime, Before I practice with the bows, Sauteed some deer loins. Nothing fancy. Sizzled in Hot butter with some salt and dipped in some Sugarfire White Sauce!

Venison from last year? Wow. We average 4 deer a year at my place and run out of it mid summer 6 deer would do better yet 7.
