Did anyone actually deer hunt in Madison County? If so, how many deer did you see/kill during the season?

We've got several here that cut through our property, stop to feed on their way and even occasionally bed down in the fence rows. I don't shoot 'em though. Doesn't seem too sporting to shoot them from my deck. There's a pretty nice 2 1/2 yr. old 8 pointer that I may make an exception on next year however, if he's big enough.

First year ever I didn't deer hunt in Madison Co. Breaking tradition was tough but hunting where there are lots of deer was nice...
On a side note I spoke with a guy who said someone found a big deer in the river with 2 arrows in it. Down around Moss Island, story I got was 170" deer. But we all know how the stories go...Suposed to have been a city cop who found it if any of you all have contacts there.

Haven't heard about a 170" being found. Surely Ole Bramwell would have written about it by now in the Herald. It's getting way too hard to find and keep a place to hunt up here. Duff this will be the first year that I haven't hunted around home as well. Out of two of my favorite thickets that held deer, one sold, and the other is now a pasture that the cows have manicured down to nothing. I would encourage anyone to buy ground to hunt on vice lease it, because it will never get any cheaper than today, and they don't make any more than what is already here!

Bramwell just might be getting the story now. It supposedly was found last weekend.
All rumors untill proven otherwise!!!

How can you stick two arrows in to a deer and still not find it? I will be anxiously waiting by my mailbox on Thursday morning because Bramwell's feeble attempts at literary genius are quite amusing!

When I lived in Madison county I had two nice places to hunt but they were owned by the same person who just couldn't say no to anyone he knew that asked to hunt. Seems like everytime I would go to one of them there would be a new stand. Doesn't take much to mess up a small wood lot.

I went to Anderson University and ended up living there for 10 years after I graduated. In all that time I only took 2 deer in Madison Cty. I did most of my hunting in Grant Cty. However, I did have some really good waterfowl hunting in Anderson.

It was not a 170, but it was 160 (unofficially) with about 7" of it's G3 broken off (compared to other G3). And yes, some idiot did stick it twice, once low, in the brisket, and the second in the loin. Had about 3" of carbon and a Muzzy 100 in the loin shot. Trashy with kickers, heck of a nice deer. Also found a 1.5 year old 6 point dead with a carbon express and a slick trick stuck in kidney area about 100 yards away on same farm. Tresspassers beware!

Well that stinks, hate to hear of bad shots. Good luck with the tresspassers! Those shot placements would not necesarily mean the deer were shot on that farm, they can go a long way with those shots. But 2 that close is strange!

I have two properties I hunt in Madison Co. I took a 142 inch 9 pointer last year on one. It is getting better, but land is limited and hunters typically do not let the deer grow. Does anyone know anyone that hunts by the White River out by Hamilton Rd? I'm trying to see if anything nice has been spotted in the area. I have about 80 acres I just started hunting last year, but most of it is in tree plantings. Tip for Madison Co. stay close to creeks and rivers. Also, what the the DNR thinking Bonus Antler-Less tags up to 8 in Madison Co?

I hunt 70 acres in Chesterfield right along White River and I see deer every time I am in my stand (do not always have shots of course). Madison County is loaded with deer

Spent my whole life fishing along that stretch of the river, but never got to hunt. it wasn't from lack of trying either, the landowners I knew just didn't allow hunting. There are good spots if you have permission to be down there. I agree the river and creeks are the key but not sure the rest of the county is capable of supporting the liberal doe harvest. Lots of the county doesn't have the same habitat as the river corridors do.
