Wife and her father were out driving around Parke Co. yesterday and spotted a Golden Eagle in a field. My Father inlaw got out and got a few pics of it. If he sends them to me I will post em up. I have never seen one other then the one mounted at my old highschool. Can't imagine them mis IDing it, big, feathered head and no white.
Figured this would go well along with the bald eagle thread.

It could be a young bald eagle. I don't think they get the white tail and head till they're around 3 years old

You're right. I wasn't there but I have seen juvie bald eagles and there was enough white mixed in the head or tail to 100% ID it as that. They got this bird to fly and they still were sure it was a golden. Who knows. I thought the same thing though.

Two golden eagles were reported today on the INbird site. Ornithology prof. Don Whithead had one at Cutright ramp at Lake Monroe. And interpretive naturalist at Salomonie Resv. had one there as well.

What indybrad said is right...Doubt it was a Golden , more than likely a young Bald Eagle/ I've seen em too and they do look alot like a Golden Eagle..
