The only scent that ever worked for me was Wildchild by Buck Wild.

I've never had any really work for me, I had a bottle cap unscrew in my pocket while hunting. Soaked my flip phone and made for a smelly ride home!

Found an old pair of Jim Crumley Treebark coveralls in the barn a while back. It was cool stuff at the time, still a good pattern in the hardwoods.
Being a hard head, I refuse to wear camo boots and always buy the olive drab Lacrosse or black Northerners. A couple buddies and I take great pride in who has the oldest, ratty old camos.

Fresh earth scent wafers and tarsal glands is all I use now a days. Wafers for walking in and out of stands and tarsal glands for mock scrapes when I have them. I used to use them and had some success. When I do use, it's only walking to the stand. I prefer not to walk around my stand area what so ever. All my walking paths run 15-20 yards from stand and them I walk perpendicular to stand without a path. I prefer the deer walk 20 yards from my stand at all times during the year.

They worked years ago when they were 100% natural but almost all are artificial now so they are not worth the water that's in them. I have refreshed real scrapes by urinating in them, I was surprised it worked. I have found a curiosity scent that brings deer in during early season, it this brand of vanilla. I get it at a local Mexican food store.

Just goes to show how scents can be hit or miss.

BTW - The only LaCrosse boots back then were the olive drab boots. LaCrosse had not discovered camo yet…. AND they were around $30 and they would last at least a year on the farm and several years hunting!

It has a alcohol content to it & that makes it aromatic enough to allow the wind to disperse it. The normal vanilla you get as extract or liquid from the store won't attract anything. I put it on hanging wicks or just pour a little on the bark of a large tree & deer love it they climb the tree to eat the wicks & eat the bark off the trees to get to it. I don't know if they are trying to get drunk or it just smells or tastes that good.

Can you say mark up??

I used pure vanilla extract back in the day and it had quite a bit of alcohol in it. I looked it up today and 35% is what is in today's vanilla extract.

Standards for pure vanilla extract vary by country. In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states that the final product must contain at least 35% alcohol and 13.35 ounces (380 grams) of vanilla beans per gallon (3.8 liters) (3, 4).
Look it up and the above is what you will find.

My wife makes her own vanilla. A bottle of captain Morgan and vanilla beans. Let the beans soak in it for I don’t know how long but long enough to make it taste like vanilla. I sure wouldn’t waste it on making scent for deer hunting. Lol

I use the earth wafers in my clothing bags all year. I use a spray before heading in to my blind about 20-30 yards out. Not sure if they work or not, but think it can't hurt either, so why not....SF Woody
