Dang guys...sounds like a bunch of debbie downers in here. I know it is all for good reasons but I am sure his mom and dad are well aware of risks associated with all things in life that revolve around their kid.
If Luke is like my boy and a lot of other kids out there...the good associated with physical team sports far out weighs the risks..Unfortunately, that is life. We risk life by living. A teen boy ate up or getting hungry for a regulated sport is better than fast cars and girls in my opinion. Certainly better than drugs and alcohol.
Kick butt Luke. Set goals, be a leader, work harder than the next guy. Be a gracious winner and learn from the losses. That is solid life advice, easier given than executed! When rough spots happen due to injury, poor performance, poor decisions, poor guidance do your best to course correct. It is ok to not hit your goal, it should drive you to become better. If you hit every goal you set, you are not pushing yourself hard enough. Too many people feel missing goals means you failed, simply not true.

Work and home injuries are worse IMO they usually go untreated for some time.

LOL They are a LOT of fun! (on the track, not the street)

Luke 13yo 7th grade 6'2" 255# Stud! What a great looking kid! Wondering if you raise cattle? Might want to think about that as he looks as if he'll be eating a lot of beef!

The season came to an end. One win at the first game, then all losses.
The 3rd QB in the rotation made a couple nice passes in the last game. But the rest of the team just couldnt put anything together.
I got to go to the last game. Definately some improvement in a couple kids I remember from the first game. They got Luke at center and nose tackle. He played almost the entire game!
Luke got a couple really nice tackles against the run.
Then he blocked an extra point!!!
But the absolute hightlight was... he took a handoff at the goal line and he drove forward to the one yard line!!! He was soooooo close to punching it in for the touchdown. I was hooting and hollering when I saw him line up in the back field to take the hand off. So close. He ran into a wall of players and they finally drug him down. It was awesome! I was so dang proud!
He is happy and satisfied he gave his all, and looking forward to next year!

Good for him. Those tough seasons will only build character and make him a better person and player. Hopefully he continues to grow in the sport and become one of the dominant ones.

Too bad they didn't give it to him the next play to get it in. Heck of an accomplishment anyway! I bet he will be tired tonight!

He didnt go the length of the field, he took the hand off around the 5yd line, and drove to the 1yd line. But it was his first time with the ball, and I was pumped.

The last sentence says a lot - "he is happy and satisfied" Good luck to him and his future endeavors.

Those kids will develop together. Kids with size are good but if he has a work ethic and desire to learn the sport that matches his size...unstoppable.
Keep us updated next 5 or 6 years for sure!
