With ALL of these Banning of Fossil Fuels, plastic etc. what is the future of shooting and hunting going to be. Many of Today’s youth don’t hunt or want anything to do with the sport or the outdoors. So my question is what is going to happen to the shotgun shell ?

There is always the shooting sports. Well for now. It will either be a sport for the rich or severely limited to preserves and some public areas. It could end up like Illinois where you need the F.O.I.D. card to buy ammo. If the 2nd amendment is ever repealed I think it will get ugly real quick.

New York will require a background check to buy ammo.

So my question is what is going to happen to the shotgun shell ? I think the burning of the powder is minimal and may go under the radar, we may see the lead shot go away, it's already been banned on at least on some National Wildlife Refuge properties. As far as the plastic shell, well we all know (or most of us should know) that they were once made of cardboard. I don't see changes coming soon but if the environmental goofballs came after the shot shell I think we'd manage. From the business side of things, you may have a point, some companies will probably go under for lack of sales, hopefully that's not for a long time. This makes hunter requirement very important, I've mentored 3 outside of my immediate family 2 liked it and continue to hunt the 3rd would rather fish. I have worked with my sons, one likes it but is very busy with sports the other does not like it, my 6yo daughter wants to go so that's a good sign. I try to help younger hunters, when guys at work have questions I try to help them be successful, when my fat little self can't make it to my favorite deer spots I might tell them how to get there.... but not yet!

New York will require a background check to buy ammo. Doesn’t Illinois require the same with the foid card?

I was born and raised in Illinois and lived in that state until I was 37 years old . I actually had the F.O.I.D card before I had a drivers license . Yes you need to have a F.O.I.D card to purchase Shotgun shells , bullets and firearms .

Yes . It can take up to 3 months before you find out if your application was approved to receive the f.o.i.d card if I remember correctly

Correct…the foid is a one time background check it seems not an every purchase check like N.Y. may soon have.

The back ground check for firearms by the ATF isn't set up to do ammunition. So the NY state police won't get any background check when they call for ammo.

Hmmm I hate to say it but I think I'd rather have a FOID card.

So my question is what is going to happen to the shotgun shell ? The push to electric vehicles isn't a ban on oil, just I.C.E. oil based fuel consumption. Banning oil would honestly be the quickest way to put a halt to the green energy production. There are loads of people screaming because the big oil companies are having record profits, but they don't realize it's because of the green energy push. All of them are and have been heavily invested in green energy plus every avenue of green energy requires oil based products to function. Trying to ban the burning of fossil fuels has nothing to do with plastics.

And here I was hoping this was news of some sort of turn toward an all plastic hull like the Activ shells or some other modernization of shotgun shells instead of a worry that plastics were going away.

Depending on their use, the internal case capacity matters. Hunting loads, you want as much internal case capacity as possible. The old Activ cases had about the biggest internal volume you could find, but the Federal Gold Medal Paper hulls are a good one to use because of the compression that the paper has (reducing chamber pressure). For economical target shooting you want a tapered hull like Winchester AA or Remington.
