I would say yes for safety, but not allowed to be used during school time except for emergencies. Not locked up.

I have no problem with that Martinsville policy.

I think the kids should be able to have the cell phone with them. When class starts all the phones go into a box or keeper area. When class ends pick up your phone move to the next class in the same exercise is repeated. Phones are too much of a distraction, teachers will never be able to teach if the kid is constantly on their phone. The average kid has little self control to stay away from such a disturbance. This solves two problems it keeps the distraction out of the hands of the kids and if something happens and they need to reach out to Mom or Dad or the police they are still reachable if need be.

My girls are in high school and they will FaceTime us from class, but my youngest is still in elementary school. I like him to have his phone because it has a location tracker. I can see every move he makes, but the parental control locks his games and apps out until he hits the home Wi-Fi

My senior year at Fishers in 2018 they let us use laptops for all of the senior classes… it’s basically a phone any more, but taking phones definitely shouldn’t happen.

I say provide students a place so their phone is secure and removed from their possession in the classroom. A table or cubby hole whatever. If it rings, buzzes or goes off during class they loose the privilege for a few days.

There's software that can monitor any phones being used, what sites and who. Very common with bigger companies.

I know there are certain areas in my work building where you have to lock your phone up before being allowed to enter.
The cell phones in school don’t matter one way or the other to me. It is nice if plans change and the kids can let us know before school is out. Teachers use them during class all the time too.

I support students having phones in class. There are teachers who abuse kids and phones are a great deterrent and help with evidence collection. Maybe the indoctrination to a certain political party will slow when recording are made and played.

Yes they should. Should they be potentially punished… maybe. But these teachers are on their phones plenty during class. What’s good for thee is good for me. I like to be Anel to communicate with my children in case of emergency or if I just want to see what’s up.
