It's crazy how I end up in these situations.
To preface, I live on the south side of Indianapolis.
In the past decade we have had an influx of Burmese in the tens of thousands.
I had to make a run to Lowe's for some work supplies.
As I was walking through the parking lot to enter the store, I noticed a little Burmese boy running.
He appeared to be alone and I would guess he was 2-3 years old.
I then saw a truck clipping along the frontage at a pretty good pace and realized the boy was headed in the truck's direction.
Quick like a bunny rabbit [ok, actually doing the old fat man waddle-run] I got in front of the boy to block him.
He fell down and skinned his knees.
Meanwhile, I'm looking around to see where his adult guardians might be.
About then a lady that I think was his Burmese grandma came running toward me and the boy with another little kid in tow.
And she was letting me have it with all her finger pointing might. I had no idea what she was saying.
It was just blatantly obvious that she was mad at me.
She knew no English.
And I was standing there wondering how in the world I was going to get out of this predicament.
Then I reached for my phone to try and find some way to communicate with this lady.
Just then, I saw 2 Chin (Burmese) guys running toward me from the side.
One of the younger fellas intervened and said he had seen the whole thing from afar.
And then he explained to the lady what had really happened.
All of the sudden the lady began to cry and with folded hands, she began to say something in Burmese and started bowing toward me.
Then she was hugging me and started to reach in her satchel as though she wanted to pay me something.
Of course, I refused and asked the translator to tell her that this was all God's providence and hand at work.
Once I got home, I began to think through the event and searched up translators on the internet (my phone).
I Googled "Google Translate" and I was amazed at how easy I could speak a message into the phone.
And the message shows in script. But, it also allows me to hit the "speaker" icon and it will play the same message from my phone speaker.
Maybe some of you already use this.
But, this was new to me.
I just thought I would throw this out there if it would be valuable to anybody here!
