I have a 2018 Dodge Caravan. Wired by U-Haul when they installed a hitch. Recently I noticed the right rear blinker was not working. Went to get a bulb and replace it and the book said it was a dealer replacement??? A freaking turn signal bulb no way. That was a month ago. I had noticed the flat four was hanging a little low after my daughter's now ex boyfriend had used the van to tow a trailer. Seems one of the wires had been scraped bare on the hole edge and shorted out. Turns out instead of a fuse blowing there is a circuit board that gets fried. My local mechanic that has always done me square would not touch it. He could not get parts to replace the fried one and is very familiar with the problem. I went to the recommended dealer to get it fixed. They too were familiar with it. They said the van was never meant to pull trailers. Friday I got the bad news. New turn signal module $1000 + labor. The more I thought about this the madder I got. Today I canceled the part. Anyone know any hacks to fix this? The circuit boards function because the turn signal is tied in with wipers, washers, dimming headlights and I do not what all else maks it more complicated for this old fart. I do not understand why the light does not function but the warning comes up that it does not work. Front turn works as does every other light. There is also a circuit board in the housing. Housing and all functions work when plugged into the driver side. This has to be the result of some Electrical Engineer run amuck.

Since electrical parts are usually not returnable nor refundable, I'd look into a used part from a junkyard. I am friends with a guy that runs one in SB, and buy used regularly. It's got to save a bundle in this situation. Only thing would be, if it has to be programmed to your vehicle.
Good luck. Technology is a "wonderful" thing sometimes. 🙄

Thanks it is what I may be trying. I can't understand why an electrical part this expensive would not be fused.

We deal with this on semi's at my workplace. Manufacturer software is required to diagnose, test, and program these components. Sending you a PM.

Need to see if it has codes in the body control module. It could have power turned off to the turn signal due to the previous issue. Have seen some vehicles with a bad bulb shut it down for this. Even when a new bulb is installed still have no power until code is cleared.

I second the junkyard/pull-a-part suggestion. If that fails, I wonder if you could figure out what wires go to the turn signal and get an old fashioned relay.

Yep I know how to use them. I doubt many on the road would recognize what they are though.

I thought running a wire to a temp light in the back. I do have the Mopar part number to start the search so that helps. I was not happy with the diagnosis code being given to me. I know dealerships have their adgenda but this is just crazy. All this would be funny in a Rube Goldberg Cartoon. Not so much in real life.

Man that sucks. I would surf the web or YouTube to see if there are any legit diy repairs. I have had luck with some of my problems recently.
No way I would pay a stealership
