They have come a long way and some are pretty sharp looking.

Read something the other day about all they have to do is use some program on a usb drive and it will by pass the security system and act as the key for the ignition.
Getting pretty easy for the Gone in 60 Seconds crowd!

We have two Kias, one being part of this issue. Once the “Kiaboys” started posting themselves stealing these cars it’s just got worse from there. Social media didn’t help this one at all. They get it done pretty quickly too. Omega is correct in they steal them using a usb to a connection in the steering column.

I read if car is found and needs repairs there is a parts issue with fixing the car many parts not available.

Any word on the software update by Kia that is supposed to fix the "usb key"? The article I read said they were "actively working on it".

I haven’t received anything saying I could go get a software update. Although, I did get a steering wheel lock sent to me. Think the last thing I received from Kia said the update was coming, but that’s it.

From what I've heard, most Kia's that are stolen are just taken for a joy ride, driven like they are stolen, and then dumped. They aren't being taken to chop shops.

Yeah blown motors and transmission …then no parts available to fix them. Who wants a broken car that you still got make payments on! You be better off if they burned them or parted them out.
