In the past few months, I have been hit up three times with a gold ring or watch drive by scam. Twice in Walmart parking lots. Once coming out of a restaurant near a Cleveland Ohio shopping mall. All have been men, looking to be of Indian descent. Also, two of them were in white Escalades with temporary plates. I don’t recall the model of the first one. All have been men wearing white shirts. One of them stopped me and tried to barter a huge gold ring for 10 bucks! He said he needed gas! I told him to go get lost and buy a more economical vehicle! Today’s occurrence was at the west side of Columbus, Ohio as I’ve been working the Ohio State power plant. I caught today’s Wisconsin plate and turn it in on 911 call. I doubt much will come from that, but it was worth a shot.

Crazy!
The police could probably harass these people pretty easily based on your description but then they'd have the usual crowd screaming "profiling!"
Bringing fuel economy into it was a nice touch BTW.

Yep had the same thing happened about a month ago while buying gas at Casey’s on the east side of Boonville Indiana. Indian looking guy in an Escalade said he needed me to buy his gas Because the pump would not accept his credit card, and banks were not open for him to withdraw money. I said hell no, and he produced what look like a gold ring and ask if I would buy it. I said, I’m calling the cops and he sped away.

Happened to me last fall right here in the big city of Brazil! I was not having a good day and had zero interest in buying anything. The air "turned blue" around us really quickly and he drove away.

My brother was in NYC with his wife and they got hit up by a street vendor. He sold them a Rollex watch for something like $15?? My brother bought it for a prank birthday for me.
Fast forward a couple of months and I called them and left a message. I knew my sister-in-law would get the message before my brother. I told them the watch needed a new battery and when I took it to the Jeweler to be replaced he valued the watch at $10 K. Told them thanks and that the street vendor must have been real.
She about flipped out that my brother would give such an expensive watch away. Jan is kind of suspectable to pranks. We were going somewhere when we passed a Holiday Inn Express. I told her it was a great deal because you could pay by the hour. I told her it was a great deal for trukers because they could stop in and get a shower, nap and a little TV time and only pay for the time they use.
But I have been approached a couple of times.
