I've been wanting to do this for a good while now. Often when I go out west, I am walking miles of ATV trails just to get into my hunting areas. ATVs are expensive though, as are the trailers to tow them, and it takes a lot of extra fuel to pull a trailer 4k miles. I've also seen critters bumped by those noisy machines long before the riders were even within the vicinity. Now an electric bicycle, though not a perfect solution, would make a lot of spots easier to get in and out of. I can also just put it on a bike rack or even under my camper shell. If I ride it up a mountain and the battery goes dead, I can still ride it back out like a normal bicycle. I can charge it anywhere I can find an outlet. Electric bikes, sturdy enough for a 265 lb rider to take on off-road trails and not break into pieces, are also expensive. So I decided to put one together just how I want for a lot less money. I started with a Dynapro fat-tire, fixed gear bike. First upgrade was the seat; the original said "KRUSHER" in bold letters, and I soon found out why. I also nicknamed it the "Perineal Pounder". It had to go. A wide, soft seat from Walmart was a big improvement.

Awesome. Not bad for a mouth breather like yourself. Guy I worked with at GM had some e-bikes and he would ride them from Bloomington to Bedford. I was impressed they retain a charge for so long.

The thing is very fast. I hit 35 KPH and let off, but it was still pulling very strong. Hill climbing is not as great as I hoped, I still have to pedal on the steep trails here at the house. I've also read that performance should improve after a few charge/discharge cycles of the battery though.
I had to order lights for it that are yet to arrive, and I'll probably put some sort of storage on the front for a mobile repair kit.
I haven't figured out how to change the display to MPH, but that's OK, I can tolerate the metric system.
Range is undetermined. I need to go through a couple discharge cycles then do a real world range test.

That’s pretty cool and building it to fit your needs is even better. I watch quite a few YouTube groups that hunt out west and they all use those bikes to get around.

Very cool. What about one of those folding solar panels to charge it while hunting? I used those for charging battery packs during the day so I could charge my phone at night.

I need to look into that, but my initial thought is that the solar panel wouldn't come close to meeting the demand from the 15lb battery. But I haven't done any research on it yet.

Have been using one for several years hunting and find it very handy. However, I would not want to pedal that heavy #%@&? very far, mine weights about 75lbs.

So what was the total cost if you don't mind me asking? Been thinking about buying one already put together and they aren't cheap.

Nice…. I would of probably used a men’s bike for the build though! Um, this bicycle identifies as a men's bike, thank you. The frame design was important to me so that I could easily hang it on my hitch rack. A lot of them have large rectangular tubing that are more difficult to haul.

Well it's a hunting bike now, I put a gun rack on it. The straight handlebar had me leaning forward too far in an uncomfortable position, so I installed a taller bar. I also added lights, rear view mirror, and a small bag with a pump and toolkit on the front.

Looks like you’re ready to roll. Now to design a pull behind cart to drag all your kills out.
