Start with a very big thank you to Scott, aka "esshup". Got a super awesome surprise invite to see qualifying on Saturday at the NHRA National Top Fuel drag race at Rt 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL. Was able to take both Luke and my wife. It was quite the experience to see 11k + horsepower go 330+ mph. Funny cars, pro mods, and some bikes rounded out the show. Got to see Brittainy Force and then John Force run. Watched an engine tear down in the pits, and see everything up close and personal. Really cool. We ate at Rt 66 dinner, and got several pics of Blues Brothers posters, and the Blues Mobile up on a post at a gas station. We really enjoyed the day. Then got treated to a seafood boil of crab legs, live crawdads, shrimp, and andouille sausage on Sunday. I dont know what we did to deserve this treatment, but I guess we are gonna keep on doing what we do! Lol.

It’s a blast for sure never been at that track but down to INDY couple times you can fill the stands shaking when they rip by If anyone hasn’t been yet take the time and go well worth it if you have any interest in racing

Thanks for posting. NHRA events are awesome and it is amazing that they can tear down an engine, test for stress failure parts and put back together for the next run. Man did this bring back some great memories.
My friend Luke Oswald was the younger brother of Mark Oswald. I spent some summers weeks working in the trailers testing the parts. Luke was on the engine team. I would race my Mustang, but never got directly into that industry. I guess getting my BSEE got in the way.
Mark Oswald Driving for Candies and Hughes, in 1984 Oswald did something no Funny Car driver had done before: he won the championship in 3 different sanctioning bodies in the same year. NHRA, IHRA, American Hot Rod Association (AHRA)[1] The team took four IHRA titles between 1983 and 1987, including two in a row, 1986 and 1987, as well as beating John Force in the 1986 Big Bud Shootout (losing to him the next year).

Glad to have you guys make it. It is always cool seeing the reaction of people that have never been to the track when the first pair of Top Fuel cars go down the track. Lukes eyes were about as big as coffee cup saucers. Next year the consensus was that the race would be better than qualifying, so I will see if I can get seats like we had for that. We had seats at the track roughly 200 feet past the Christmas Tree, first row closest to the track. I honestly didn't think it would take that long to get the crawfish boil done, next year I will plan better and allow at least 4 and most likely 5 hours for prep time. If anybody else wants to try a crawifsh boil, I got the crawfish, sausage and boudin balls from these guys: cajuncrawfish.com/
