I thought I might get out on an early morning turkey hunt!? Nope! Some jackwad or a group of them decided they’d try to break into my work truck. Turned my whole day upside down! Whelp, police just pulled in for secondary report! More later

Not many worse than a thief!
At least the police showed up. We had a spare truck stolen from the lot at work a few weeks ago. The guy was obviously an ex employee or had knowledge otherwise of the property. He was very deliberate with the way he walked on the property and made sure none of the numerous cameras got a glimpse of his face. He busted through a gate with the truck and proceeded to the east end of Louisville. All of the trucks have a GPS device and it wasn't long before the boss was following him while on the phone with the police call center. He was told that an officer would not be dispatched unless the thief began driving dangerously and was advised to fall back. The thief eventually parked the truck and disappeared. The only damage was the destroyed gate. The truck still had a plow mounted, so no harm to it.

Sorry to read this Larry! I cannot stand a thief. I hope they catch them. Perhaps some of the neighbors have some ring, or other types of cameras that captured the ne'er-do-well(s).

Man, a group of dirtbag vandals can sure mess up a guy's daily routine and schedule. Here are some shots of the damage: Apparently, this happened at 4:15 am yesterday morning. We have the Ring app with cameras, lights and speakers. The camera caught the action. Unfortunately, the vandals are mere shadows of movement. But, it appears that the Ring did its job to at least scare them off. The left side of the hatch is damaged the worst and the lock is history. It seems that once they moved to the right side, the app speaker and lights detected them and upon hearing "You are being recorded" they fled. When I contacted our local police department, the officer informed me that another neighbor down the road had his work truck vandalized at 4:30 am. His cameras caught the action. Similar to me, no way to identify the s! We have a very definitive corporate process for incidents like these and I had to follow that from my Manager through the fleet lease company. Finally, with a claims number I could head to the designated body shop. Then I had to go through another process to authorize the shop to find a way to get my hatch open since I need access to my tools and equipment. So, that took the better part of a few hours because they were trying to fit me in their schedule and gain access with minimal damage. This turned out to be a major job as these A.R.E. caps are made to be somewhat theft proof! The issue to come is how to make the hatch somewhat sealable from the rain and lockable. That will be my task for the day. But, I have to wait for the body shop estimate to see what needs replacement so I don't screw up part of the cap that they did not include in the estimate! I live in a "'Historical Town" on the southside of Indy (Homecroft). Been here for 30 years. Unfortunately, the officer told me that the "Gang activity" is also on the rise like they've never seen in this lil' ole town! Times...They are a changin'

This might be a stretch, But anybody have a novel idea on how to lock and seal a bent up hatch like this? I need some way to press the door against the cap with a decent rain seal. And I need a way to lock it. And it needs to something where I can still gain regular access to my truck bed contents. Open to any ideas and suggestions!

I’ve had that happen on two vans but they did that to the doors Another they broke the window real pain in the butt
My thinking is this take big set channel locks try and bend door back maybe a pipe wrench with a pipe on it
The door is probably going to be replaced would it be possible to drill and run a cable style lock to the inside

Thank God that you weren't on I-55 the other day.....

I would back your vehicle in the driveway then they would probably be deterred because of cameras
Blacking out that back window would help also…IMO

Let the tail gate down and put 2x4 under bent window side and beat the bent metal straight with a Rubber mallet it won’t be perfect but you get it close. Rubber mallet is your friend…

I had to break as my grandson had a golf match against Pike at Southern Dunes. I try to make as many matches as I can so I’ll have to work on the truck in the morning!

Well, I'm glad I took a break to catch Tyler's golf match. Probably one of his better outings. As a freshman on the Southport High School team, he medaled and had one of his best days with a one over par, 37 on the "Back Nine!" And now I've got to get this truck in somewhat of a working order! Got jobs to do!

Good for you! IMO, your priorities are spot on. I coached high school football for 39 years and some of those kids never had a parent see them play.

Nope......mostly D2 or D3, only (IMO)legitimate D1 we've had was 6'6 and 310, throw a ball 60 yards, hands like pillows and very quick. Unfortunately not the best home life, poor grades and poor choices did him in. My son was a jailer before being a deputy and said every time the kid was in there, he asked about me and told him to tell me hi. I see him and his brothers frequently and by golly they have turned things around. All have good jobs and staying out of trouble.
Our current QB is also an excellent golfer (freshman as well). I'm a hacker so not a good one to judge but most here say he is a D1 kid.

This will have to do for now. Some work with my body hammers (haven't useed those in decades). A little J-B Weld and Bondo! Some rivets, SS hardware and a lock and cable! Most of the work was getting the mechanism to seal the door against the cap. Funny thing is, that part is now working better than before! I realize nothing will be completely theftproof. At least this will be a deterrent. It'll have to do for now!
