Been looking at houses the last week, and saw a couple really nice ones, but we've been hoping to find one the kids would want to be in with us. Went with our daughter and grandkids today and looked at one...9 bedrooms/4.5 baths...and the grandkids have already claimed their own bedrooms. This one not only checks off every box we had, but it creates and checks some new boxes as well. Talked with the owner briefly when we first got there, and she indicated she was willing to leave a bunch of stuff, and we're meeting her tomorrow to find out the extent of that. Every single thing we have ever dreamed about in a house is there. We'll see.

Sounds like you maybe “pickin and grinnin” soon….. Quite possible. If this comes to fruition, it already has a building in place where we could host weddings and/or small music events. There are 2 fenced areas, of approximately 6-7 acres each, both with great grass, where we could easily raise 3-4 head of beef every year and never have to lay down a flake of hay. There's 2 hoop buildings for getting plants/flowers going, and a massive garden area. Pretty sure I'd need to fence that to get the 4 legged vegetable extraction devices out, but what's a little elbow grease? It has 2 small ponds, and I already have started formulating plans on expanding the one in the back out to 2-3 acres. As for the work for that, my son in law has an excavator, We'll be getting a tractor and my wife is an excavator running machine, as well as the son in law. I have a concern or two, but overall, there is some potential here to positively affect a great many lives. First, and foremost, would be the grandkids. They are homeschooled, and my wife is chomping at the bit to be involved with that. She homeschooled our three daughters up to high school, and one of them...the daughter...here through that. My daughter doesn't really do a lot of cooking, and my wife is VERY excited about the possibility of being able to teach those kids how to cook and bake. My wife also sews and quilts, and on this short trip, she has started teaching the 2 granddaughters some sewing skills. There is one huge room upstairs that will fit her long arm quilting machine, and her sewing machine, nicely, so I can guarantee you that process would be in absolute full swing. Aside from direct family, there is the very real chance of affecting the lives of local young folks in church youth groups. At this place we could easily hold youth group gatherings. There's the wedding/music building for instruction/music, and for entertainment type stuff there's an awesome in ground pool, a volleyball court, and tennis/basketball court, and a horseshoe pit. If for nothing else than us and the grandkids, I would be putting in an archery range, so there would be that as well. The kitchen is massive, and cooking for 50 people would not be an issue at all. This is all scary, and exciting at the same time.

I found the place on Zillow, looks extremely nice. Also relatively close to a lot of public hunting land if that's important.

Sure is a great looking place. Lots of things to do to keep everyone busy. Crazy to me they built all that house and didn’t out any ac in it. At least that’s what the listing shows.

Yeah, no central air, but we'll work on that. Radiant floor heating, with 2 separate systems for heating the water. Yesterday afternoon it was 83 degrees outside, and 60 something inside. Went through the place today, and almost everything inside will stay. Seriously, it's almost a put your clothes in the closet and start living situation.
So, my son in law is law enforcement in California, but has been looking to come out here full time, same profession. However, the pay here is half, and the retirement is nothing like there. Just before we were to head over to go through the house this morning, my daughter said he's probably going to stay and finish his years there. That means my daughter and kids probably back to Cali. We kept our appointment though, because I had some questions, and because "you just never" know. After we went through the house, and then finished up outside, everyone started back in. I pulled my wife aside and said, "About the house..." and, at the same time, we both said, "I still want it." I don't know why, but we are both compelled to be there. Now we just have to sell our house and learn why.
Kids, or no kids, we're still moving forward.

Just a bit of advice on the pond. It's easier and cheaper to manage two one acre ponds than one two acre pond. You can have a different mix of species in each pond too, so you have different angling opportunities.
Say Largemouth, Bluegills, Redear, catfish (you don't "have to have" catfish) in one pond, Smallmouth, Yellow Perch Redear Sunfish, Walleye in the other. Both can have Hybrid Striped Bass, you could stock trout in the fall for winter/sprng fishing in either pond. The redear control snails which are part of the life cycle of many fish parasites, and also a part of the Swimmers Itch life cycle.

I will most definitely be using your services if/when the time comes. Right now both ponds are small. The one in the front of the property is a circle with maybe a 50 ft diameter, maybe 8 feet deep?. One in the back close to the same size and depth, just a different shape. Would like the one in the back bigger for sure, and would concentrate fish efforts there more than the front, especially after reading about fish poachers.
