I would like to thank esshup for all his advise on stocking fish in a buddies new lake. With his shared knowledge and wisdom he has helped a great deal on getting the lake stocked.
We would have made a grave mistake in the relocation of some bass and bluegills from another location.
Thanks again esshup and others for your contributions to this site, that's what makes it what it is. Da best !

Very curious what the mistake would’ve been? I didn’t know we had a pond advisor on board but great to know though!

Very curious what the mistake would’ve been? I didn’t know we had a pond advisor on board but great to know though! We were going to try and catch some fish from a friends lake and transport them to his new lake. It can be done but not without precautions. He recommendations has us rethinking the idea !

Very curious what the mistake would’ve been? I didn’t know we had a pond advisor on board but great to know though! You can move fish, but you need to realize how that will affect the pond they are being moved to. In their instance, they wanted to move small bass that were overcrowded in another pond. 10"-12" fish Since they stocked the pond with small bluegill, those small stockers are perfect size for the "free" bass. The free bass would be eating machines, and you really don't want predators in the pond to eat the stocked fish - eating their babies, that's OK, but not the stocked fish. If there is unwanted plants in the donor pond, you can also transfer them to the new pond unintentionally. Watermeal, Eurasian Watermilfoil, Starry Stonewort, etc. If transferring fish from a public body of water, you could also be transferring zebra mussels via the zebra mussel veligars (that you cannot see with the naked eye). You can also transfer fish that have white or yellow grubs, or what is called black spot disease. A customer transferred fish from a public lake in NE Indiana to his private pond. He transferred Starry Stonewort too, and he's pushing close to $5,000.00 spent on trying to eradicate it from his pond. His "free" fish aren't so "free" now.
