You know, John Anderson had a song that seems to fit very well. 🤔

The above has definitely had some affect, but another big factor is not many of the young kids hunt or have any interest in hunting. I've got a great hunting setup here that is wide open for my kids and nephews to hunt whenever they want, but you'd be surprised how little they actually do it. Too many other activities and hunting is low on their priority list. The kids these days don't want to work either, they would rather be on their phones, computer or hanging out with friends. I agree too that the hunting shows are "NOT" real world hunting. Most are on managed lands that are able to grow giants. So alot of people expect to see those kind of deer but that is not reality. Yep, it has become a rich mans game and you can kill big bucks if you pay for them. Now don't get me wrong you can kill big deer too on your own land or on public but it takes a lot of work that most don't want to put the time or effort in. Also they see the people on the shows kill a nice deer within 1/2 hour of being on the stand and get discouraged if they don't see one to shoot that quickly.

I hope hunting in 2030 features me being semi-retired and hunting on my own land. Probably not realistic, but can't a man dream?
I have leased in the past for the main reason of having a convenient place to hunt. Private access was nice, but not the primary reason. I have never pretended to give a hoot about bucks or antlers. I hunt solely for enjoyment and meat. Bucks are nasty to clean and the meat just is not as good to me. Some may argue with that statement, but that's always been my opinion on bucks.

We very rarely keep meat from bucks. Unless a young one. Donate them or give them away. Does go into the freezer here. There is definitely a difference in taste.

I will be retired by 2030 and who knows if I will be alive or not. I will be 69 years young. I might have 50 hives by then since I plan to retire in mid 2024. Hopefully, by then I will have my own 25-50 acres in Switzerland county to hunt. I still spot looking Ohio and Switzerland counties.

I've been at this for 50 years now myself. Despite all the complaints, deer hunting is actually better than it's ever been, including both numbers of deer seen and quality of bucks available.
The biggest negative long term issue in the northern part of the state has been the destruction of hunting habitat by the row crop farmers. The amount of woodlots, fence rows and marshes (game holding habitat) has probably been reduced by 60% from when I first started hunting. Fall cultivation of the crop fields is done nearly everywhere also which leaves nothing for game.
I saw this coming a long time ago and knew the only way we were going to have really good hunting (around here) was if we bought and protected some habitat. It's definitely been "pay to play" for me, but has also been very rewarding.
Regarding complaints about access and hunting public land, it's still not horribly difficult to find some farmer that will let you hunt for free, and leasing can be done pretty affordably as well if you partner up. There's also some great public spots with pretty low pressure. Most of the folks that gripe about it aren't willing to put in the work and effort.

It’s easier for some to just give up and complain!

The bigger bucks I make summer sausage jerky things like that the smaller ones I’ll eat I’ve found bigger bucks don’t seem to be as bad if taken before the rut starts coming in. The only downside to does is the amount of meat you get per deer some do get bigger but they have a better taste no mater when you take them

As a land owner I’d agree I’ve paid dearly to play be it cash or sweat worth every bit. Before my leg started screwing up I still hunted tons of public ground I personally enjoyed it even though I had private ground to hunt. It truly teaches you a lot about deer movement and how they survive and when you take a reasonably size buck it’s truly gratifying but I also only bow hunted and it was before crossbow I had a lot of woods to myself I’m sure that’s changed

Really hate what has happened to deer hunting. I’ve been at this “game” since 1968. A ton of things has changed in that time period. Most not for the better It’s become less and less enjoyable over the years. I probably would have quit 5 years ago if my grown grandson had not expressed an interest in deer hunting. I’m still in it for him. Back in the “good old days” most landowners didn’t care if you killed some deer off of them. The pursuit of big bucks has really turned it into a pay to play sport. It’s now become a own, lease or hunt public deer hunting sport. Pretty sad really.. This wasn't hard to predict. Many people did a long time ago. But this is what people wanted, now they are getting it.
I'll make a prediction for 2030. Hunters will continue to think they have to beg new people, who don't really care to hunt, to take up the sport and appease them with rule changes making the same problems you don't like now, worse.

What is it that people wanted? Explain….
