I was just talking to a guy on the phone that told me he would be getting any deer meat checked which I don't even know if that's possible before eating due to the amount of herbicides farmers are using. Does he have a point? Are we really not eating safe meat if we are eating deer that have been eating crops that have been sprayed?

Does he have a point? Are we really not eating safe meat if we are eating deer that have been eating crops that have been sprayed? There have been some recent articles stating the same and in some states, the DNR is suggesting passing eating deer from certain regions. I would think that it is regionally dependent and it wouldn't hurt to know how the farmers choose the chemicals they put on their farms in your area. I believe that it is still better than any meat you could buy from a grocery store. apnews.com/article/lifestyle-environment-maine-wildlife-pollution-8c08f6ce0e0f020ba6b16107c0024004

I'm not going to stop eating it but it might not be as good for us as we think. I know I should eat more fruits and veggies but I don't seem to get around to it that much.

Having grown up on a farm and operating a forage operation still today, I can tell you with 100% certainty that herbicides and pesticides used today are far safer than at any other time in farming history. (Glyphoshate is probably one of most widely used , and widely studied.) I personlly have no concerns eating venison over other meat products , as IMO wildgame is some of heathiest meat available.

Lets face it unless you grow your own garden and raise your own meat we dont know whats in or one that stuff from the store. My BIL is a chemist and told me if you knew what they sprayed inside of those veggie/fruit cans you would never eat it again. Told me another about diet soda eating through the pop cans. They had to develop something to spray on the inside so it would not eat through the can.

I am sure there are studies that determine the exposures humans get from eating wild game. They do it for fish consumption advisories.
So the devil is always in the details. Those who want to push an agenda will tell you all the risks based on your choices and ignore the risks associated with their preferred option.
There is nothing risk free. And 1 option may lower a single risk but expose others.

I remember reading something about the herbicides and pesticides doing more damage to the soil than to our health. We have a top soil problem with the current model used to feed billions of people. Some estimate only 60 years left unless something is changed

A deer's diet is comprised of 85%-90% grasses, woody browse and mast. ( Think some of you over think things honestly.) AG crops make up a small % of a deer's diet and are only available for a few months out of year.

I remember catching Walleye from the Wisconsin River that smelled exactly like the paper mill when cooked. They never made it to the plate.
Unless the OP's buddy is willing to send EVERYTHING out to be tested that he eats or drinks that he doesn't grow himself (and never, EVER eats out in a fast food place or Restaurant) I think he's wasting his time and $$.
Does the OP's buddy drink at all? Alcohol IS a poison after all, what about that?

I'm eating away! If not this, then worrying or any one of 10k other things will kill me!
Same as lead hunting bullets, sinkers, and anything lead casting. How many people do you know that have been harmed by exposure to lead? I bet not many compared to how many are exposed. Not saying it cant happen, but I'm playing the odds on this one.
