I got my wife's new mossberg 20g ready for her to use. This is the first time I've mounted a scope on a gun. I got it pretty much dialed in but I'm going to let her shoot it to fine tune it. That way she can't blame me if she misses one. I hope she puts one down with it next month. I got her a .243 last year but she really wanted a youth mossberg. She had one taken from her when she was younger. I'm glad I was able to get one and make it better than the one she had before. Plus I can use her .243 now.

Very kind of you! I hope she finds success with it!

This setup has the scope mounted to the receiver, but the barrel is not really fixed to the receiver. This can lead to sporatic accuracy.
If it is shooting good groups as is, maybe no need to do anything, but I have found that better accuracy can be had by tightenting the barrel nut just a little more than you can get by hand. I put a rag on it and use channel locks to get another click or two. Definitely don't overdo it!

We won't be removing the barrel on it so I don't mind tightening it down a little extra. I got her a 20g semi auto with a bird barrel if she ever wants to turkey hunt or shoot clays.

Just curious because I have a 20 Ga pump, what ammo were you using and how did it group, what range, etc.

I'm going to get her a nice set up to fine tune it. I'll probably dial it in at 30 or 40 yards. Our woods are so thick it's hard to get a shot much farther.

Ive used a 20 for years as my go to weapon of choice. I can knock out a pigeons eye at 100 paces. Nothing wrong with a good shooting 20. I did find that without the scope I am much better. Most times deer are right on top or moving and scope just got in my way. Very first day I hunted with it had a buck right under me and all I could see was brown in the scope.
