I think I finally understand the appeal to saddle hunting! I would love to hear feedback from those who have actually used a saddle for hunting. I am especially interested in the Tethrd line of products.

Consider your climbing system, I bought mine to try to stay mobile and get out of a rut where I went to the same stands the same trees every set it did open up a few options for me but the best part about having a stand already set is you don't have to bring very much equipment you just climb up the tree and get in the stand. The cleaning systems are heavy and it nullifies the advantage I'm going into a new spot without a bunch of weight. I'm not saying they are bad it just wasn't as helpful to me as I thought it would be. I did find a few new spots because I had the confidence to go in and climb whatever tree I felt like climbing rather than not go to that spot because I didn't have a stand in there. That's my take on it results May Vary.

I had one specific spot where I knew I needed to be and wasn't able to set up there because no trees were straight or big enough for a climber. Sure enough a doe walked out of the corn right where I needed to be. Also I was able to get my buck this year because I could set up over a scrape line. The best tree was forked but I was able to use my sticks and saddle to get in position. jajwrigh if you want to try an Aerohunter saddle let me know. I have the Flex and live just north of Martinsville. Is there a certain reason you're leaning towards Tethrd? It's my understanding that a lot of guys really don't think their saddles are comfortable but they do have a good marketing team.

I'm ok with the comfort of tetherd, it's not like sitting in a treestand but I'm not terribly uncomfortable either. I'm good for a morning hunt or an evening hunt just probably not all day. Get yhe lightest sticks you can afford.

Tethrd products were on sale a few weeks ago so I finally jumped in head first and got the platform, phantom saddle and various accessories. I already had the hawk helium steps. I've only practiced in the yard, but it is extremely lightweight and comfortable. I had a friend buy his saddle last year and swore he wouldn't use a stand anymore after using the saddle.

I have been very interested in saddle hunting for the last couple years. I haven't taken the leap yet. I'm just not sure about all of the accessories that I would have to carry and set up or take down in the dark. I have been using my trusty API Grand Slam Supreme for 20 years. It's aluminum, but with everything else, it's still a good load to carry in/out. How much does a decent saddle hunting setup weigh?

Their stuff appears to be really high quality too, so that is what has my attention. One of the buddies lives next door, so I going to give it a shot soon and see how it feels and works for me. If I don't like it, I may take you up on your offer and try out the Aerohunter saddle as you have suggested.

Eventually I may upgrade the steps to shave some weight.

I switched to saddle hunting a couple years ago and really like it. I own tethrd products but also have Shikar sticks and a couple other saddles. Once you switch, you won't go back.

I just tested my neighbor's Tethrd Phantom Elite Saddle with the XL Predator platform. I am 6'5" 270lbs and don't really like heights at all and found it to be a great experience. It really surprised me how secure and comfortable it was! The 360 degree shooting possibilities are great too. I think I am going to order the same setup for another option for myself for this hunting season.

Looks like I'm a little late on this, but haven't been on here in a while, so I'll add my two cents.
I got into saddle hunting last year. My style of hunting is extremely mobile. I usually only hunt a certain area once or twice in a season. Being that I move around a lot (and also being that I hunt huge chunks of DNR WRA's where stands are not allowed to left overnight) the saddle gives me a lot of options. I used the Hawk Helium mini sticks with the mini platform that attaches to the top stick. With 4 sticks, I am able to get up 20' without overreaching. The 4 sticks with the attached mini platform are around 11 lbs, I believe.
As for comfort, I will say that a stand is probably more comfortable for a long sit (6+ hours), however, the more time I get in the saddle, the more I have figured out ways to make it more comfortable such as angle of tether, angle of saddle, etc. I use an H2 saddle and love it. I have killed 1 deer out of it and it worked great. It does take some getting used to but once you figure out the way to set it up for you, it is great. Again, it totally depends on what style of hunting you prefer. If you hunt mainly private property where you don't need to move around much, then stands may be the better option, however, if you move around a lot, a saddle is definitely worthwhile to add to your arsenal.
Also: you can ride a bike with a saddle... just another thing that has given me an edge in the way I hunt.

Be sure and let me know when you sell your API. I will be there to pick up up. I have used one for 20 plus years myself. Best climber I have had. And my son wants one.
