so you think someone modified that axe for kindling or something? it is interesting. That's a broken brush axe welded onto a nice Collins axe. Whoever did it ruined the value of the Collins but I like weird home made tools like that. I have a brush axe in my collection. I'll find a picture of one online and post.

Getting a deal nowadays on axes and hatchets is getting hard to do. You used to be able to pick them up cheap. Not so much anymore. I got rid of most of my collection. I was offered an amount that I couldn't pass up. I had over 100 at one time. I still pick them up if I find a deal on them. I sold a Black Ravin for 500 bucks on Ebay a couple of years ago that I found at a yard sale for 10 bucks. Several Plumb National Pattern hatchets have also made me some bucks that I picked up cheap. I love getting an old rusty axe and cleaning them up and restoring them. There is a group on Facebook called Axe Junkies that is a wealth of info.

I've never seen one in person. I didn't know you collected axes. If you count hatchets, I've got probably close to 100 or more. I agree about the market going crazy. I was telling my wife about it getting harder to find them. Same with draw knives too. I've got over 50 of those. I'm a member of axe junkies and a couple of other groups. There is a guy who lives 20 minutes from me in KY that sells restored axes for a living. He gets unreal prices. We compete for axes at the local junk stores.

I don't overpay for them. If it's not a good deal I pass. I'm positive I could make a profit on every single one that I've bought.

My dad used to call those brush axes "booger hooks" where he got that name I'll never know.

iS THAT ALSO KNOWN AS A SLING BLADE? I think so, but I'm not totally sure. Some folks call it a sling blade, I call it a Kaiser blade. Got a long blade on it shaped kindly like a bannaner. Sorry, one of my favorite movies. Seems it’s close to a sling blade, but the ones I’ve saw all have the metal hook coming off the end of the handle and not the side. Could still be considered one though.

I had a pretty good collection of Bluegrass and KeenKutter tools at one time. but sold most of them on Ebay. I was running out of room in my shop with all the other "junk" I collect. I have been lately getting into collecting old knife sharpening steels. I have probably 25 or so of them now. Do you have any Norlund axes or hatchets? The Norlund double-bit Cruiser axe has really went up in value

I like the shape of the hatchets. I really need to go through my collection and see what I have. I picked up a Gransfors Bruk axe last year for a few dollars. I think I have a Winchester hatchet too.

The first hatchet I bought was a Norlund double bit hatchet when I was probably 13 years old( I'm 58 now). I bought it from a fur buyer that sold trapping supplies. I bought it with money from fur I caught. It came with a leather sheath. If I remember right it cost me a couple muskrats.(about 12 bucks) I don't know what ever happened to it, but over the years I had several of them. I like the size of them. A good one will bring well over a hundred bucks now on Ebay

How's the crowd there? A friend of mine is a vendor at Shipshewana and says his sales are down at least 50% from the previous two years. He said travel costs are making not worth the trip. He does drive from Jeffersonville every week. Seems crazy to me irregardless of profits or costs.

After looking at your flea market haul did you pick up a wheelbarrow to haul your treasures???
I always liked to take a day just for the flea markets down there.
