As far as a providing quality nutrition for your local wildlife , it is hard to beat WHITE CLOVER varities. Here in SE IN deer use clover plots year around. Over the years I have transitioned to adding chicory, alfalfa and a mix of clover varities into my stands. At any given time I will have 10 to 15 acres of clover plots spread out across my farm. Depending on varity and quality of soil clover provides a high protein forage of(18%-32%), and is highly attractive to deer and turkey. "IF" you take care of it, clover plots will last 5-7 years. Weed control, timely fertilzing and liming , as well as pest control from time to time ,will help longivity. For the $$$$ , tonnage and quality of food provided and longivity. CLOVER IS KING IMO and will always be foundation of my wildlife feeding program.

Some will mow Clover some wont...... Generally I mow plots couple times year. For multiple reasons: 1). Broadleaf weed control , 2.) Reseeding purposes 3.) Seems deer prefer slightly more while activily growing before put on seed heads. ( Some biologist despute this), but I have seen first hand increase in use a few days after mowing.

New clover growth is more tender than old growth. I like clover, just need enough rain to get it germinated and established. That's the problem that I have here.

I agree, clover makes a great food plot and it gets used nearly year round, compared to other plots that only get used for short periods. I'm planting a bunch currently.

2nd that and it makes a great honey. Good all summer nectar for the bees. We need to get rid if grass yards and go with clover-flowers yards.

Nice looking plot Mess! I have 6 or so acres of clover & chicory that are the main feeder . I spray once a year for weeds & fertilize . One thing I’ve been doing the last couple years is frost over seeding it when it’s ate down to the dirt & it been working well . Usually plant a big radish stand in August & couple small plots to feed through winter .

I’ve never done much more than a mowing in the May time frame, usually late and clethodim early in its life. Broadleaf weeds for the most part don’t concern me as most are edible by the deer and/or are eliminated in that mowing.
Love clover and honestly I’ve switched more and more and more yearly into it.

Labal calls for 4 ounces per acre Is this 4 oz per gallon of water and if so how many gallons of water do you put down per acre? Sorry for all the questions. 4 OZ. IS PER ACRE herbicide (Thunder) Every sprayer is different on output and your actual speed also effects how much volume putting out. My ATV sprayer (25 gallon) puts out approx. 6.5/7 gallons per acre at 4-5 mph. In this case: Ex. Half acre plot you would mix 2 OZ. herbicide 16 oz. crop oil into your sprayer 10 gallon water would be plenty for my sprayer. Go over plot until use up tank. There are formulas to get it exact , but for food plots I do not over think it.

I ordered my white clover mix yesterday. Plan is to seed into my buckwheat in August, alongside a brassica mix I ordered as well. Roll it down with the cultipacker and spray with glyphosate. I hope to have a decent brassica plot this fall, then have good established clover heading into next spring that I can maintain going forward.
