Wow. Our boy Luke is one smart cookie! I have showed him how to drive our new tractor a few times. I let him putt around the yard a time or two now in low gear. Today I asked if he could help me with some firewood chores. My back is doing better, although I am not lifting anything, just normal movements to try and loosen up. Luke jumped on and really impressed us! I let him earn increased throttle and medium range gear. He is doing AWESOME! It took awhile to trust him on the log splitter. I am now 100% confident he understands the safety aspect. Really happy he is figuring out how to judge a split so the wood is proper size. Also that some wood is stringy, and when to stop on a knot or when it just isnt right. He helped me for a couple hours since the weather was awesome, and I honestly cant say he did anything wrong or worth a correction. I thanked him dearly, and said I wouldnt make him do anything that was harmful, or bad for him. I just wanted a little help today, and he saw how a little effort went a long way towards the future of our comfort. I built a hydraulic lift on the splitter years ago to pick up any size rounds you can roll on it. It sure saves on the back and a convenient place to stack wood when the wheel barrow is full. Today we also stacked on the loader bucket and hauled it to the wood shed to make life easier! Finally getting somewhere!

Very cool. Life lessons that will never be forgotten and make them realize their efforts are worth something in the end. I do the same with my kids. Theyβve both even driven the new tractor. Of course in low gear and not very far.
