That thread in the CO section about being close to schools got me thinking. I remember going hunting before school in the mornings and tossing my gun in the back Seat and just driving straight to school. No case just chucking it right on the seat. Heck I remember being in metal shop which had a garage door that opened to the back of the school and showing my teacher the gun I was using that morning. I did go to a smaller school but can you imagine that nowadays. Heck I don't feel that old... was there no problems at all back then or was it just not publicized like now. 🤔

Wow, great stuff Pigeon. Reminds me of my brother and I carry pieces and parts of guns on the school bus for refinishing and rebluing in shop class. Not totally convinced we didn't bring them back home on the same bus fully assembled.
Things seemed a lot simpler then.. The thing is we never gave it a second thought..

Same with me during high school. Could only turkey hunt until noon then, so we’d all go to school afterwards with our camo on and guns in the trucks. No one said a word. Heck, in 8th grade music class I spent a couple classes cleaning pheasants for the teacher who just got back from South Dakota. Of course, I got an A in the class.

I use to carry my shotgun in my vehicle and hunt after school. Put my camo on right in the school parking lot. Most of us boys carried knives too while in class.
Different times. Different world. I believe that kids are more violent now than ever. I think that's due to more exposure to it. Video games, world wide web, social media, TV shows, etc.

There has always been stupidity in the world, but back then it wasn't very prevalent. I believe because anybody wanting to shoot up a school had to worry about which or how many redneck kids would shoot back.

Life lessons actually hurt back in the day. Life lessons now are electronic based and pain isn't allowed.

Remember gun racks in the back window of your truck? When was the last time you even saw a gun rack? I had one in high school, and so did a lot of other kids. No one ever thought of doing something stupid with their guns, that’s just where we kept them.

My high school parking lot was full of trucks with occupied gun racks in the window. It was more the rule than the exception. My senior year (1991), we had to give a demonstrative speech in English class. I brought in my Winchester Ranger 120 for a cleaning. Walked right through the front doors of the school and put it in my locker until class.
I wasn't an exceptional academic student, but had near-perfect attendance and stayed out of trouble. My parents allowed me to fish before school in the spring and squirrel hunt in the fall. I was periodically late for school, but I always had a note from mom.

I have one better than that. In 1988 I took my Muzzle Loader into school to for History Class. Took gun powder and mini ball and loaded it in front of class. I didnt have a cap. I then stored it in my locker until end of day. It was for extra credit.

Used to bring 12 gauge on school bus when hunting the farm. Put it next to driver and get it on my way out. Go hunt some squirrels after school.
Also used to walk down the main road with the dogs carrying guns to hunt just up from the house. Guns on our shoulders.
It was nothing to show some teachers our new guns for hunting.
Also made knives/cannons in shop class.
All of these would have swat team surrounding me now.

Just another good example of brainwashing. Fear brainwashing.
Great stories. Same with me with shotgun to class and school. Showing the over-under 2 barrel shotgun.
