I just found out that at the next NRC meeting, the DNR will be presenting a proposal to institute a shed hunting permit for whitetailed deer. A $25 permit will be required for all shed hunting activities on both public and private property. Public comment is now being accepted at the below link. bit.ly/3qTMod8

While seeing the reactions to this is funny, there truly has been some discussion of hiking/bird watching/ mushroom hunting type permits for anyone not holding a hunting license to be legal to do those activities on public ground that doesn't charge an entrance fee. The premis is to try to balance some of the money non-hunters contribute towards public land to what hunters contribute.

What is going to happen when a bunch of licensed bird watchers desend on an area to "bird watch" during season? It has always irked me that people that do not have either a hunting of fishing license can use propertys that we have to be licensed to use.

It has always irked me that people that do not have either a hunting of fishing license can use propertys that we have to be licensed to use. It happens on a regular basis now. Multi-use public property is difficult at times unless there are rules put in place to separate certain activities at certain times. Last year we were hunting the marsh draw at Monroe and some people decided to pull up, step over the "no access" sign, and take their dog for a walk.

No one can be in the field at Roush Lake without signing in. In the turkey season the only ones allowed in the field are drawn hunters and fishermen. Some are carrying a rod around no where near a pond. Make a rule and some will find a way to break it.
