I was flipping around and landed on MSNBC because there was some war footage. So time passes and I look up and there is a show called, I believe, "Mid-Terms Pregame." They were puzzling about Hispanics voting Republican. It was really odd.
Some idiot was poised, weatherman-like, in front of a map of Texas. He had papers in one hand to make him look more serious. ( why do the map guys do this?) His tie dangled as he stood in a stance like someone prepared to catch a football. He was pointing at this county and that while talking about the shocking numbers. Now I'm para-phrasing, but this was the gist:
"So Fred, it turns out, that working class Hispanics with more traditional values were put off by some policies pushed by white progressives."
"Wow Bill. People that work and pay taxes being irritated by liberal welfare policies! And some of them, who count on school to help their young children learn English, are mad about blue-state schools being closed for two years. They don't understand how important it was. Amazing!"
"Yes Fred. It seems like Democrats just assumed that Hispanics would side with Democrats because they are not white & Republicans are ( actual quote) 'a bunch of racists.' We didn't factor in that that had some conservative views. Conservative brown people are put off by a focus on pronouns, electric cars, and covid masks."
"Bill, also amazing, less than 2% of Hispanics knew what 'Latinex' meant and even less liked it when they did. They didn't care that white progressives thought they should use the term."
It was bizarre, in a dumb sort of way.
Now Fox, of course, leans right. Imagine Fox having a round-table on why vegans weren't voting for a GOP candidate who belonged to the NRA and ate wild animals. 20 minutes of conversation about how surprising it was that the Gun-toting deer hunter was not capturing the vegan vote in a certain state because most of the vegans were white. White people would naturally lean GOP, right? How amazing that the fact that otherwise their views totally conflicted, so that affected the vote. Shocking!
What sort of imbecile watches this ?

Unfortunately, my FIL watches this garbage all day. He's a big lib and former staffer for a large city D mayor. It is sad how polluted and narrow minded his way of thinking is.
He does respect my rule that CNN and MSNBC are not allowed to be on any TV in my house other than the basement.

I agree, very odd but it doesn't surprise me. I've noticed that Libs are "anti racist", but they always seem to be the ones pointing out skin color. Especially when it comes to voting blocks. "Here in metro Atlanta we can expect to see 80% for Biden as the vote tallies come in with the African American vote." Etc I remember during the 2020 election the Libs freaking out that Hispanics from Southern Florida were voting for Trump. It almost offended the media, like they own that class and expect their cote by default. But hey they ARE the party of inclusion as long as you're voting for them.

Have you seen the latest poll numbers for Hispanic vote? It has soared to the republican side. My concern is, while I align way closer to the conservative ideals than the liberal ones, I don't believe that many of our politicians truly align with any of them. I think politicans (on both sides) say what they need to to get votes in front of the camera and at the first chance they get to make money or gain power, will do whatever is necessary regardless of the consequences or if they said they were for or against something. I think they are all self-serving shills completely focused on themselves and nothing else.
