On another site, a guy is saying that the spring turkey season is for shotgun only.
He feels this is the case because fall season is archery only, except for the short, limited gun season as specified.
He claims he is being told this by others in the know. Whoever that is? I'm just trying to help out since he is disabled and uses a crossbow and I think unable to handle shotgun recoil.
I say you can use archery during the spring season. What's the consensus here?
I copy and pasted the rule, but he claims it reads archery is fall only...
Turkeys can be hunted only with:
A 410 caliber and 10-, 12-, 16-, 20-, or 28-gauge shotgun loaded with pellets of size No. 4, 5, 6, 7, 7½, and Tungsten Super Shot 9 and 10. Non-toxic shot is required while hunting turkey on some DNR properties. Call the property you are interested in hunting on for additional information. A muzzleloading shotgun not smaller than 20-gauge and not larger than 10-gauge, loaded with pellets of size 4, 5, 6, 7, 7½, and Tungsten Super Shot 9 and 10. Combination loads using shot sizes other than these are illegal. Bow and arrow A crossbow

Spring is open to Gun and Archery........ Archery in fall is just archery!

The real question is, why do we only have one spring turkey license? Seems we should have archery, crossbow, firearm, muzzleloader, make a bundle for spring and fall, etc.

I dont get how that can be misunderstood or misconstrued? About as black and white as it gets. I forwarded the link and then copy and pasted the actual words. Then said just call the DNR to clarify. Hope it helps him.
Thanks for the reassurance.

He is a long time IN hunter too. Hated to hear he has missed out since not gun hunting any more.

At least he's straightened out and educated on the matter now. Hopefully he has a fun, exciting and successful spring in the turkey woods!

I shot a bird about 10-12 years ago behind the house here from a pop-up with my crossbow. It was legal then and still is legal now.

Yesterday I drove through a flock of maybe 50 birds on both sides of the road and a few in the road. Not fast enough to hit any, but fast enough to make them get out of the way. Most (when flying) seemed to be Jakes by the look of their tail feathers. Couldn't see any beards.
