hey everyone. several years ago, I received a Savage Axis rifle that was customized for the .358 hoosier wildcat round. Please pardon my amateur/novice vocabulary here...Im sure I am not including something important for your consideration. The rifle was never fired and I only have a few rounds. Now that this round is no longer relevant in Indiana what are people doing with those rifles?

Keep using it. It will still kill deer and still needed on public land. I am sure you can find someone with brass and who will reload some for you.

I agree, use it and enjoy it. Its a very efficient cartridge that serves the name well as a medium range tool. 358 anything is an awesome deer caliber.

Oh yeah. Keep it. You can use it in other states as well. The .35’s are killing machines.

No longer relevant? Blasphemy!!
I'm pretty sure that if you asked the deer that I've shot with my Hoosier, they'd say it was pretty relevant to them!
I'm guessing your rifle was re-barrelled to the 358 Hoosier. I did the same with my Savage Model 11. I have my original 308 barrel, so if I ever want to switch back, I can. Not sure if that's an option for you with the original barrel.
I don't normally shoot past 100 yds, and the 358 is probably even better suited to my hunting conditions than the 308. Nothing wrong with a 35 caliber, 180 grain bullet moving at about 2600 fps.
Your biggest issue is probably finding ammo for it.
