Taking the wife to Vicksburg, Mississippi for a mini-vacation. Staying at a pre Civil War mansion that is supposed to be very haunted. One room has a cannonball lodged in a beam from the battle. The owner used it as a hospital for soldiers from both sides.
The Duff Green Mansion.

Yep Coca-Cola museum. Also the USS Cairo, the only remaining Civil War ironclad, fully restored. Gotta hit that

On our trip Gettysburg my wife found 3 ways to tour the battlefield. Tour bus, self guided tour with a map and CD or hire a guide. We did the CD and it was good but at a couple of our stops we overheard the guides giving their talks. Afterward we wish we had hired a guide. These guides are schooled in the history and battles fought. Where the Union was and where the rebels were. I do not know if they are available in Vicksburg but I know it would be worth it to me. The American Battlefield Trust has YouTube videos on several of our battlefields. They are worth looking into. Before you go here is an animited map and brief history of the battles around Vicksburg. It may help you understand what some of what took place. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eSgimZ8GKQEnjoy your trip into History. As much as the Woke culture want to tear down our history the ABT wants to help preserve it.

The guides ride in your vehicle. They know the area well. The ones we heard seemed to really be into the History of the battle and troop placements and movements.

I did the guide in the car at Vicksburg and Gettysburg well worth the money. They say best time to see Gettysburg is when leaves are off so you can see the lay of the land better.

Well Vicksburg was cool. We took a tour of the McRaven House. My wife and I were the only ones there. I am usually more skeptical than not when it comes to reports of haunted houses, but keep an open mind. But, I have to say, that place is messed up. It has a rep for being one of the most haunted places in the country.
When I went in I started getting a weird sensation like the air was very heavy, like a weight or pressure - very unpleasant. After a half hour or so I started feeling noticeably depressed and weird. Never mind the handful of sounds of things bumping or knocking - I saw an antique cabinet door swing open on its own when no one was near it. We left after about 90 minutes and I had a hasty eadache, had to go back to the room and take some Tylenol and lie down.
Call me crazy if you want. I only ever had that happen to me once before when I was about 16

It was pretty good. The history was super cool. And I tell you what, they sure know how to cook down there! Some of the best food I ever had.
